I don't post in here much, but:

You can't really spot train to lose weight from a particular area. YOu can do cardio to lose fat overall, and HOPEFULLY it'll come off of your love-handles. You CAN, however, do some toning exercises to tighten up those muscles - there are lots of good oblique exercises out there, ranging from fairly simple to oh-my-god-I-wanna-die. But as I said, if the fat is covering the toned muscles, it doesn't matter.

This is true, but to lose weight and maintain it, you still need to do cardio. Having muscle mass alone won't do it. And keep in mind that muscle weighs more than fat because it's more dense - so if you don't see the scale drop much, but your pants are falling off, you're doing well

For sure! I would rather do cardio, but I seem to get the best result when I have some regular strenght training, and I mainly do body weight stuff..pushups,crunches and other ab exercises, squats lunges... you don't need an expensive piece of equipment or monthly gym fees to build strenght!

Wurkit gurl said most of what I was going to say. You cannot spot lose. I find that weight comes off from the place you have had it the shortest. The longer the weight has been on you the longer it takes to work it off. Cardio and diet should do it. It took me 45 weeks to lose 85 lbs. and I have kept it off  for 6.5 weeks so far. I would like to lose a little more from my waist and butt. Toning is a great idea for its own sake, but it will not reduce the fat in that area.

Im right there with you but I only lost 60 lbs. The 60 lbs and getting back in shape were easy compaired to the last 5-10 lbs, love handles and butt. Really I don't care about the weight its the body tone I want. I just figure if I can loose 5-10 then the body fat should drop and give me the look I want.

The one thing I have found to watch out for while strength training your core with love handles is that if you do tooo much weight you will start to build muscle under the fat causing your love handles to stick out more. I'm not too big of a guy but have always had trouble with love handles because of my body shape. Remember low weight and high reps when it comes to your core. Just my two cents
