Saturday they had a sprint/oly at the location for next years St. George Ironman and the swim was cancelled due to high winds. Hopefully next year will be better.

That is aways a concern in May there.

I would hope that the IM is a little more prepared/capable of providing safety measures and would take a little longer to cancel a swim.

OR we can hope it's calm that weekend.

Exactly, I think that the waves were doable, if your an Ironman you can handle those waves but I understand canceling it for a sprint or oly due to the inexperience.

Remember though, Utah RDs are dealing with past ghosts.  They are once bitten so to speak, on windy swm conditions.  So I think they are going to be quicker to pull the cancel the swim trigger (rightly or wrongly) than they otherwise might be, especially at the IM distance.

Hopefully, it all works out and is a non issue

Turns out that the kayakers were very inexperienced and they were a deciding factor in getting it called. My buddy said he has done several tri's with larger waves than that. I will be there in June so hopefully it will be a mild day.

I understand the Kayakers that will be used for the IM will be very experienced to avoid this type of scenario.
