My cycling shoes are pretty old and crappy, and really heavy and are starting to fall apart. I'm going to buy some new cycling shoes and was woundering if you can do all your bike training in triathlon shoes as well as race in them.

I want to train and race with them and only want to buy 1 pair.

What do you guys do?

What's a triathlon shoe? I just have a pair of LG Carbon and I train and race in them.

Why wouldn't you be able to train and race in the same shoe?

Yes one pair works fine.  Same basic shoe; mine has one strap and opens in the reverse direction.  You obviously want to make sure it is a good fit (I saw someone review that this one didn't fit well on a narrow foot), but I've been using this one (http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?SKU=25325&subcategory_ID=10001) without any problems whatsoever.

I wear my road cycling shoes when I ride my road bike, and wear my triathlon shoes when I ride my tri bike. Training or racing.

I guess I'm just funny that way.
Cool

I have both cycling and road shoes plus winter boots and mtb shoes. I do most of my training in my road shoes and a couple rides before sprints and olys in tri shoes. I do HIM and IMs in my road shoes. I think my preference for road shoes is they fit better with 3 straps compared to one big velcro one on my tri shoes. I've been considering gettiing a new pair of tri shoes that fit better with carbon soles. My current tri shoes have some funky thing that grows in them after they get wet and we have to wash them in the dishwasher to get the smell out.

I have both.  I tend to wear whatever is close at hand.  My road shoes are warmer, though, so I tend to wear them in winter.

Depends on which bike I'm riding.

My race bike requires the race shoes and I do take her out on rides from time to time to keep fresh on handling her and keeping aero.  The road bike has regular road shoes and while I can go aero on her it isn't as comfortable.  The geometry and fit are just different enough that I find I can't stay aero long on the road bike.

I use tru shoes most of the time when I am on my road bike.  If I decide to go on a long several day tour, I might swap out the pedals for my road SPD's and touring shoe.

I train in my regular running shoes on my trainer at night time, during the day I train in my triathlon (Carnac) shoes.  I HATE walking on the cleets with them!  I feel that I have a better stroke though with my running shoes for whatever reason.  The best bet is to snag you a pair of cheap ones (ebay/craigslist) and if they work, then your set!

I have road shoes--three straps, no buckles. I wear them on my road, track, and tri bikes.  Racing and training. They are 8 years old, and still trucking along.
