Subject: Oh my. Look what followed me home! I guess this all started with me registering for the SOMA 1/2 IM (which will be my 1st! ). I began thinking..."Do I really want to put in all of those road miles on my cyclocross bike?" My Kona Jake the Snake is great on the trails, and I tend to hammer on it a lot. It's also my commuter to work once or twice a week. But it's all aluminum, and a bit heavier due to the beefy frame. So then I started thinking about getting the right tool for the right job. I began looking at entry-level tri bikes. I wasn't about to go all crazy and get some super expensive bike. $1200-1300 was about what I wanted to spend. So I researched bikes and the Felts caught my eye. I decided that I liked the component package best, and the S32 was right in my price range. We went to a few bike shops in town to start looking. Supergo in Tucson only had a few '05 S25s, and they were all too big. We stopped by R&R Bicycles, but they were closed and a quick peek in the window showed no Felts on the floor.
Yesterday we went up to Phoenix so that I could pre-ride the Xterra tri MTB course. After the ride we got some lunch, then stopped by Tempe Bicycles. They advertised as being AZ's largest Felt dealer. Well, they only had 3 S32s that were all too big. I was not impressed. Last stop on the way home was Supergo in Chandler. They had an '04 S25 on sale, and it was in my size! I took it for a ride and really liked it. The sales guy scanned the tag one more time and discovered it was even cheaper, at $1200. So I was getting the next higher model above the S32 at the same price as a new S32. AND it came in the silver color that I liked. I didn't care for the yellow of the new S25s, nor the bright red of the '05 S25s (sorry to the red bike camp ).
So now I have a brand new tri bike! I'll be practicing with it on the roads, and my first race will be a sprint here in Tucson in July. Then I'll have an Oly in early October, and the 1/2 IM with it in late October. I'm currently searching for a Terry Butterfly Tri saddle for it, and just slapped my clipless pedals on. And of course I had to put the signature Pirate Girl stickers on it right away. After I get the saddle I'll take it to get it fitted properly, then it will be off to ride! : )
Here is my bike family that it will be joining. Strange not having a bike with knobby tires. ; )
