Subject: Loose skin from weight loss

I’m not sure if this is the right forum to ask this question in but I think people in here have/are dealt with the same thing I am. I recently lost 50-60 lbs and my mid section will not tighten up yet. It’s not like flap loose but when I grab my stomach I can pull the skin away from my body. I am already doing the normal of diet and exercise but is there anything else to do?  Also along the same lines does anyone know of anything that can be done with stretch marks?

At my biggest I was 260 and right now I fluctuate between 199 and 202 and would like to loose another 5 lbs but the last 5 is getting very hard to loose

Ahhhh....the dreaded post-weight loss loose & saggy skin issue...I'm all too familiar with it, as I think many of us are.   I don't know what your age is, but I'm 43 and female...and let me just say, it's way worse for us older gals.   Older skin just doesn't snap back after being stretched out.  Aside from surgery, I honestly can't think of anything that will help with this...and I've tried just about everything out there ranging from tons of abdominal/core exercises to creams.   If you happen to stumble upon something that works, PLEASE share! Tongue out

since you are only 31 i think you have a chance at good abs. but nscrbug is right about us over 40's. I've kept 80 pounds off for 8-9 months now and i can tell i'm never going to have abs i can show off.  sad since i've worked so hard. but hey i'm over 40 - it's not like i'm gonna wear a belly shirt anyway, right?

A buddy of mine has gone from 525lbs to less than 380 (but has gone back to 400).  He now has a mountain bike and loves it and is loosing weight again.  He's 26 but going from 525 to his goal of 280 or so (He's about 6'7") he will have loose skin.  He looked into it some and said the only solution he could really find (even at his age) was surgery.  Which if you do drop that much weight and still are flappy I'd justify it 100%.

At 31 and a 60lb difference I'd wait it out.  It might take a year or two but I'd just see where it goes before surgery.

I agree, you need to give it time....it didn't stretch out over a short time, so it will take a while to decide where to settle, then make a decision.  Personally, after 2 kids, lots of weight loss and being 40, I just try to keep eye contact with people so they don't have a chance to check out my tummy.  Oh, and having breasts also helps to distract (lady boobs, that is) !

agreed on the boobs, they cover-up a weatlth of other bad areas when a guy doesn't look anywhere else! ex-nay on the moobs though. i could barely stand to watch Ron an biggest loser because of that six-pack of moobs.

Take it from someone who lost 200lbs and then had 16lbs of skin cut off around her middle and back...the older you are, the less likely that the skin will bounce back. If you are in your 30's...better chance than those of us in our 40's. For the stretch marks, there are a couple of remedies you might want to try. I used Mederma (sp?) back when it was NOT over the counter and it worked beautifully on some of my stretch marks but recently, there is a new product you might want to research known as including Revitol, Cosmetyn, and Captiva SM.

I still have 40lbs to lose and LOTS of skin and fat on my thighs. Keep training and working on the muscles and the skin might come back. If you ever do decide to have the skin removed, make sure you are stable in your weight loss before having it done.

Just my two cents...for what its worth!

Genetics makes a difference as well as age and how much you have lost. I had twins and only gained about 25 pounds. After my kids were born, I was surprised how my tummy changed and it didn't get better. You can sort of tell how skin will change as you start to lose weight.

It's not that bad that I would need surgery. It's just not tightening up yet. It's more of a vanity thing for working out so hard. I put in the time and effort getting some results would be nice. I still want to lose another 5-10 lbs or more specific 3% body fat. I want to get into the single digits. As for my stretch marks some are really bad and I don't think they will ever get better but oh well. Being fit it the most important thing over all, but still getting at least a 4 pack would be nice

I have a before and after in my profile now if you guys want more of a visual.

I always wonder about this. IM taking the weight off nice and slow 1-2lbs a week and hope that helps some.

but I have kind already decided to myself that I would consider surgery to tighten it all back up if needed. Im a little vain, but more importantly proud and would like to show it off.

Just wanted to chime in here since this is something I've been struggling with as well.  I lost ~60 lbs over the past few years.  I'm 47 and stay in the low 130s now, but I have a huge amount of skin on my belly, and lots of sagging on my upper arms, boobs, and inner thighs.  I've spent several years thinking that it was my fault because I wasn't working hard enough or doing the right mix of strength, cardio, and monitoring nutrition.  I spent the entire winter doing exactly what I was supposed to do.  Strength training, not doing excessive amounts of cardio, and eating clean, natural foods 90% of the time.  I can see more tone in my legs and upper chest/shoulders area, but nothing changed in the mid section.  It was a little discouraging to me, but I've finally realized that I'm doing everything I can.  I can stop beating myself up because I'm not working hard enough.  I AM working hard enough, but this is the body I have to work with and since I'm not willing to go the surgery route, this is what I have to work with.

Don't mean to discourage you, but sometimes learning to love and accept yourself the way you are is the only thing you can do.  It's a hard road, but you're not alone.

I have 5 to 10 to loose. If you look at my bio I have a current pic. My body type is a little thicker. When I was at 6% body fat in high school I weighed 189 LBS  but I had a lot more over all muscle then.  If I get to 190 lbs now I would be about 8% or so body fat. Right now I am at 11%
