Subject: RE: Oak Mountain State Park - Saturday May 30th Just got back from my trial run. I did shorten the swim up a bit, just because. Even though the water was fairly warm, I still had a hard time breathing at first. After that settled down, my real weakness appeared -- I can't swim straight for the life of me, and I can't spot either. Hopefully, I'll get behind someone who knows where they're going. The bike was tough, but at least now I know where the hills are. The one at mile three is bad, but the one that got me was the shorter, but I think steeper one, on the way back up toward transition (about mile 12.3 ). Do we have to ride in the bike lane, except to pass? It was ok when I was going 6 to 10 mph uphill, but anything over 15 mph on the way down and it got a little bit scary. By the time I got to the run, it was about 10:15 and it was already really hot. On the upper part of the course, there seemed to be more trees and shade which was good. And there was a whole lot more uphill on the way out than the way back, but I sill had a slower time on the way back. Of course, I did the whole thing at race pace, meaning that I finished! |
