called in fake sick to get in a long ride before leaving to go out of town. bad karma though, I actually got a horrendous flu the next day and ended up missing even more work the next week. oops!  I had the time of my life playing hookie and riding though

This won't go down as the most creative, but my mechanic is so good we drive 25 miles to have him fix our cars. Well, today's a bike day for my Oly-distance training, so I'm about to put on the Spandex and go pick up my car with my other ride. Should be fun.

I've also had my wife pick me up at a gas station 3-plus miles away from our house a couple of times so I could literally run to get a Diet Coke.

Gotta love multi-tasking to train!

The list people put on here sounds pretty familiar, from running during lunchtime at the office to have the Mrs. take a set of clean clothes and shower stuff as you are meeting her at the in-laws to I literally have a platform next to my trainer that holds my keyboard and mouse so I can train mid-day and stay in touch with the office.

I also have found myself out literally "running" errands.

One of the most recent "strange" things I did was needing to get enough time in on a run and be there to pick my son up from school, I ended up running about 10 laps around the school pick-up area while waiting for his class to be dismissed.

14-mile long run.  On a cruise ship.  The morning after a night of hard partying.  Now THAT was a tough long run.

Minimally creative, but I sometimes ride 60 miles to a quaint, touristy town in the Texas Hill Country and meet my family there for lunch.  I get in a workout and the family enjoys the day trip and shopping.  Then I get a ride back home.

I leave my commuter bike at work most of the time.  When I ride home in the evenings I leave my car at work.  Kind of forces me to ride back in the morning even if I'm not motivated to ride!

This is not too crazy. I was signed up for the Krispy Kreme Challenge and that day ended falling on a day was supposed to do a longish run.  So I ran from my house, which is 10 miles away, to the race.  And then ran the Challenge with some friends (but did not eat the donuts!)

Rode to work on tri bike (14.5 miles). At lunch ran to pool (3 miles), swam 2K yards (if I recall correctly), ran back to work (3 miles). Then rode home hard again (11.8 miles- I mix up the route). It was my own little OLY built around my work schedule. I love having showers at work. And love having coworkers who don't care that my "lunch hour" was quite a bit longer than that.

I routinely ride to work with some extra distance thrown in to turn it into a decent training ride. Helps me get some miles in without taking much time over my regular commute.

Not exactly creative, but I did a 10 mile run in the Sydney airport once.  I've also taken calls while on the trainer a few times.

This is how some of the 'cross training' was done last year.

I run backstage at Epcot where I work one or two days a week!! I switch out of my costume and into running clothes and get a good hour run in before returning to a wetsuit (Im a Divemaster in the Aquarium at Epcot). I did this last year and probably will start in a few weeks as my workouts increase!!

hahaha...I'm relieved I'm not the only nutter who has done this. I've had to spend a LOT of time in Dublin airport, and it's hard to sleep on those benches. My running shoes were the only ones close enough for reach...and I was wearing comfortable clothing...and everyone else was sleeping... I got some interesting looks from the overnight cleaning staff.

I did a "run commute" to my job in Glasgow, mostly out of necessity. I had to open the pool at 7am on a Sunday. Now, this doesn't sound so difficult, but there is NO bus service that early on a sunday in Glasgow. So I woke up at 5, dressed in my running gear, filled my backpack with my work clothes/show stuff/food/etc, and ran 7-8 miles to work. Showered when I got there. Then after my shift was over, I'd get in and swim, have a sauna and hot tub, get dressed in my running gear again, and run home. Or take the bus home.

Since I've been a lifeguard for most of my "non career" work life, I've definitely done a few laps while I had no swimmers in the pool...challenging when your pool is all of 10yards and hotter than hell.

Great htread--lots of cool stuff here....

I'm in sales and had a deal pending but it looked like it was going to go to the following week. I left early Friday afternoon and decided it was a beautiful day for a ride. About 25 miles in, my phone rings. I'm thinking it's my wife, so I answer and it's the client. We go over some of the particulars and she decides she wants to do the work. Cool. I ask her to "hang on a second, I'm on the road and I need to pull over." I close the deal, phone the office to fax the contract, do all of the confirmations from my seat and BAM!

I used to ride my bike to work and will likely start again, now that school is over.

I coordinate car repairs with my Saturday morning Bible study so I can drop my car off, run to Bible study, then run back to pick it up. The rest of the time I bike there, then leave to go on longer rides.
