Seems there are a lot of triathlons in the Maine/New England area this weekend.  Anyone doing the Pirate this Sunday?

I think you picked an excellent course for your first open water swim.  Have you practiced getting out of the wetsuit?

I practiced when I did an open water swim clinic with Peak Performance...  It didn't go well...  It was what I was most nervouse about at the race...  Turns out it was one of the few things that went well...  Swim rocked 7:11, wetsuit came off just fine...  Bike sucked, run really sucked...

But it was fun even if it hurt...  :-)

Kurt, solid win for you congrats!

What do you think the distance was?  I like to review results to use as a measuring stick in a general sense where I'm at.....and my first response to those swim times was "uh oh, I'm gonna get smoked at my first (ever) tri next month"......then I started noticing a pattern to the swim times and I've read on BT that swim distances are notorious for their inaccuracy....and figured either the field was blazing fast, or the swim was going with the current (in a lake Foot in mouth), or the distance was short.

Also, for those who competed, congratulations and where are your race reports ??? Laughing

Well, for what it's worth, here's my race report.

The weather was perfect.  I'd have to agree with the swim being shorter than 1/3 of a mile.  My time was too fast for that distace.  The bike had some nice, challenging hills and I thought those working 302 did an outstanding job with the traffic.  Heading out and coming back in I had no issues.  The run is not the most scenic but I liked the finish being on the beach.

Comparing your "times" with those in this race may not be the best way to determine where you are.  Distances and the overall conditions vary so much from course to course.  I'll give you an example of another "short" course.  Last year's Scarborough Tri run portion.  I haven't come close to matching that time in my two races this year.

Only regret is I didn't sign up my daughter for the Kid's Fun Run.  She's only two but after wathcing the other kids, I know she could have easily finished the race and she would have had a blast.  If they have this race next year I'll sign up again and sign up my daughter.  My goal - give that Kurt guy some competition for once.  Now I know what those poor guys on the PGA tour feel like when they play in a tournament with Tiger.

Hey good job everybody who participated!  I wish I was able to get out there and cheer you guys on, but I had to get my 60mile bike ride in early.

I'm still too new at this to even attempt to judge distance...  I was first out of the watter among the nivice swimmers according to my brother so it was a success...  :-)  Yeah the venue was nice, hopefully next year I won't have such a horrid day...

my guess is 350-400 yards for that swim.
