Your daughter says, " Gee Daddy you got as much grey hair as that guy"!
"That guy is in his 80s'"!.

People start dying.

The threshold has been crossed when I look at the 25 yr old and think, "he's just a kid"...and I'm in early 30s.

Graying men are distinguished, right? I can't wait to have some real grays---it's a badge of honor!

......your ob-gyn says that you are "of advanced maternal age".

......your 5 year old makes peace signs with both hands, angles them down, and says "Yo Mom, peace out!".

You call the 17 year soldiers arriving at your USAR unit "kids"...

comfort is more important to you than what's "in" (clothes, shoes, etc)

My friends used to be impressed with the shoes that I could walk around in. Now I try to look for shoes that are comfortable and stylish. I blame it on training though, not on getting old.

When I was a freshman in college, my roommate had gotten his HS sweetheart pregnant the weekend before he left for school. They got married, their son was born in the spring of our freshman year, and they all lived together in the on-campus housing unit for student families until he graduated.

Their son just finished his freshman year of college last month. Hearing that made me feel incredibly old for some reason.

You know that you are really getting old when:

  • that cute girl you've been talking to tells you that you remind her of her grandfather
  • some 40-something woman says "you bike (or run) pretty good ... for an older guy"
  • you call anyone under 50 a kid
  • you have to stretch before getting out of bed ...

Okay...I can directly relate to this one...and I'm only 43!  Takes me a good 20 minutes of stretching in bed before I can stand upright...how sad is that?

-when ibuprofen becomes one of your food groups.

-when you see kids driving around and think that they stole a car from their grade school parking lot.

-when the kids you babysat in while in college are now (youngest)-out of college, and (oldest)-out of law school!

-you get called ma'am on a regular basis.

-you haven't been carded for alcohol in as long as you can remember.

When you stop being able to tell the difference between a 16-year-old and a 19-year-old, you just know they're both too young.

I know I'm not "old"...but I definitely had "aging" moments in grad school.

Such as....being the only one in the room to remember life BEFORE THE INTERNET*.
I actually had an undergraduate as me how we found articles before JStor. He actually thought that academic publishing before the internet/electronic databases was just.not.done.Like we were using Gutenberg or something. He was blown away by the fact that we had to use card catalogs and subject indexes. And type on word processors. Nice kid, just not that bright at times.

BTW...I'm 24.

*I guess more accurately: before the Internet and computers became widely available for public use.

I sent the first child I ever babysat (and held as a newborn baby) to Afghanistan today.  For his second tour of duty in a war zone.

I realized that I do not know any of the groups or songs my older daughter listens to.  And only some of the stuff the younger one does.  A few years ago, I took them to Bonaroo as a graduation trip for the older one.  I think I had heard of only a fraction of the groups playing.  The only saving grace for me is that they are both into "old music" - Simon and Garfunkel, Beatles, Hendrix...

You don't need to comb your hair, since there is not much up there.
