Hello everyone,

There will be a new tri in Traverse City on Sunday, August 23 this summer.  It is being put on by a new race management company created by the founder of the TC triathlon club.  You can check out the website at www.enduranceevolution.com . The course maps are not up yet, though.  If any of you southerners are looking for a great up north vacation - come check this out.  It should be a great race in a beautiful area!

Great to know!  My wife lives up there all summer and I make the journey from Royal Oak every weekend. I know the area pretty well where they are planning to have the race.  It is really spectacular.  There is another Tri in Petoskey the following weekend that is also in an amazing area...Blake

Yay!

Perhaps I should open that tri store in TC and give up the computer life.

Hmmm...we may be up for this one.  Pretty good bargain at $50.  It sounds like the Olympic course might incorporate McKinley Hill on the peninsula...

I remember when 3D held a tri in 2002? in TC, but I think we started in East Bay...the water was super shallow (unswimmable) for about 100 yards.  I haven't been to Bowers Harbor in a long time...anybody know what the beach/water conditions are like there?

Nelg,  we need a tri store in TC!

Water conditions in Bowers Harbor should be calm.  It's a relatively small protected bay so it should be warm enough to not "need" a wetsuit.  Not 100% sure but I think we'll be using a boat launch by the marina and I've kayaked there and I think the bottom was a bit squishy, but not sink to your knees squishy.

Hi all,

My name is Joel Gaff, and I along with Eric Tingwall are the ones putting on the Traverse City Triathlon on August 23.

We've just posted the course maps (fortunately, no McKinley Hill...but a few that will rival it at www.enduranceevolution.com

We'll also be hosting a free course preview/training day on Saturday, July 25.  More info is available at the site mentioned above.

If you have any questions or comments at all, we encourage and appreciate your feedback. We're promising a first class event for everyone involved.

Thanks,

Joel Gaff, Jr.

Taking on the oly...

I noticed the training day on the 25th, I planning on doing that. I am looking to build up my swimming mentally. Tired of nessy the lochness thoughts circling my head while swimming Embarassed.

If I could tag along with someone training in open water, that would be great.

A great way to get in some practice is to go to one of the local beaches and go back and forth along the swim bouys.  Really helps you learn to site and you're not far from shore!

(This thread needs a bump.)

Judging by the organization of it all and the beautiful environment, the TC tri should be amazing. It will be my first tri and am so excited, for I have been long due to compete in one (that's right, compete). If you haven't visited the website, they have a video of the bike course posted up which is really nice and helpful. I am going low budget - no wetsuit, no clip pedals or tri bike. Just me, my running shoes, and my friends road bike I've been training on for the past couple months. I may sound pretty amatuer, but I think my lack of accessories will be an advantage during the transitions. I guess we'll see...Smile  Can't wait!!!

Dude, I may be able to set you up with some loner pedals, shoes and wetsuit if you want. I am up every weekend to hang with the wife and little one. Let me know asap and I may be able to get you the gear this weekend. Would need a ballpark size for the suit though...

WOW!  Great race! Great support!  Great volunteers!  Great course!  This was awesome!  I love the idea of pint glasses for AG awards and overall winners getting free entry and a bottleof wine. I think 3D may have some serious competition for northern Michigan after this one.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Very well organized and the course was great. Awesome weather conditions too! We'll see just how well 3D executes in comparison when I partake in the Barefoot at the Grand Traverse Resort.

Had two close friends that ripped up this race. Were very complimentary. He won his AG, and she was 4th OA. Sounded like an awesome event. This one might make the calendar next year, schedule willing.
