As many of you know, I've been waiting impatiently to take delivery of my new Seven Axiom and unload that pesky tax refund. I was fitted to it (with both road and tri setups) this afternoon and took it for a quick spin on the streets around the shop. It rides like a dream! And it fits me, really fits me, which is unbelievable.

His name is Finch, fittingly enough.

Gorgeous bike! Congrats! How'd you decide on a Seven? I've never heard of the manufacturer. What components did you bike come with? Again, amazing bike!

olddskool - 2005-04-19 8:44 PM Gorgeous bike! Congrats! How'd you decide on a Seven? I've never heard of the manufacturer. What components did you bike come with? Again, amazing bike!

Seven is one of the best known and widely respected builder of custom bicycles.

Looks great Amanda. How does it ride?

I had never heard of Seven Cyles until I read about one of my favorite drag racers:

It is UNBELIEVABLE! Did my first 30 miles on it this morning. Besides the fact that the weather was perfect and the route quiet and wonderfully rolling, the bike was insanely perfect. Here's the full review I put in my log:

Okay. Here are my thoughts after 30 miles.

Wow!

Seriously ... The bike is lovely. My last ride wasn't anything to sneeze at; I always thought it handled well and was particularly stable on fast descents. This bike is in the perfect space between twitchy and laid back. Perfectly responsive. It held a line through a turn so smooth and firm I had confidence in it from almost mile one. The ride quality is great, of course. It smoothes out rough tarmac and quiets all but the biggest heaves in Boston's horrible springtime pavement. And yet it wasn't at the expense of a stiff drive train and immediate accelleration.

Climbing was definitely easier than my old bike. This mount definitely wanted to scoot up the hills lightly, and I tried hard to obey. It made clean work of the many false flats around here that I certainly noticed more with my old Trek.

The 650 wheels spun up fast even though they're way overbuilt for the bike and me. I'd say they spun up like my Cane Creeks. I was trying to get a feel for how they coasted, but I honestly didn't ride my other bike on the road enough this spring so far to be able to make a good comparison. It will take me a little while to get used to how the wheels affect the gearing, but I think that will be for the better.

The components were as expected. Full Ultregra will do that. The shifting was precise even using my "old" STI levers, rear d. and cassette. The one thing to note was how much stronger the brakes are compared to my old RX100's. I skidded out the back wheel because those brakes grabbed hold with so little pressure.

I look forward to "riding lots" just so I can deserve this wonderful machine.

Ooooo...a Seven. I've always wanted a Seven cyclocross bike with disc brakes.

Great way to unload that tax refund!

Per Bear's comment I did some research about Seven bikes. Titanium! You must have gotten one serious refund check. Who is your accountant, I'm using him/her next year.

Tax Refund? Of what do you speak? Grumble, grumble...stupid Self-Employment tax. Screw those old folks mooching off of my Social Security money!

I'm seriously missing the days of refund checks. Hasn't happened since college.

yeah, Sally is straight. It happens! Her mom and I were disappointed of course, it wasn;t what we had in mind for my bike, but we know that it was not her choice, it is just who she is, and we love her for it...

Amanda, what a beautiful bike! I love the color. Herdad and I both ride orange bikes. And doesn't it feel great to ride a bike that fits well, really well. Ride in good health!

Finch wants to see a picture of Sally before he asks for her number.

I'm my own accountant, and I gave the government one hell of an interest-free loan last year. As I'm self-employed this year, I figured I'd better enjoy it while I could!

Sally is lucky to have such open-minded, understanding, caring parents.

There are worse things than straightness. She could be spending time with the blue bikes, picking up their SLOW habits, or, worse yet, she could be hanging around the Felts {{{gasp}}}.

"You gave the govenment one hell of an interest-free loan last year." I think the government took your money and gave me a non-interest free loan last year. I just finished school and loan repayment has begun.

Enjoy your new bike. Its really beautiful. My income tax refund is going toward my purchase of real estate. Although I'd much rather spend it on something fun like a new bike or a cruise...

here she is. And the kids have my permission to take the truck if they need it for a date. They can stretch out in the back and not remove a single wheel or accessory!
