I think the last crash I had gave me a pulled hip abductor muscle. I think it's that because if I lay on my right side, and try to lift my leg laterally, it hurts. I can lift it, but it hurts. Right after the crash, for a day or two, it hurt to even walk. Now I'm ok with walking, biking, and we'll see about swimming on Saturday.

So, those who've pulled a muscle like that, how bad of a strain was it, and how long did it take to recover?

Do ya'll think I could do my tri I have in WI on the 20th? I hope it's not my first DNS or DNF.

I pulled mine two years ago really badly.  So badly in fact that I needed PT to get it worked out.  There was a couple days that I was unable to lift my leg without using my hands to help move it.  It took me 3-4 months to be 100% recovered, and I can still feel it if I have a really hard workout.

edited to add: my doctor said I would have recovered faster if I had stopped training for triathlons when I injured it, but I didn't.  I took a couple weeks off, went through the PT, and then got back at it.  I should have gave up that season of racing, but I didn't.  I did OK in the triathlon I did that year, but was only able to run a 5k that fall compared to a half marathon the year before.

So not too many people have had a pulled muscle in their groin?

Hopefully someone has some good news.

Yes, I've had this. I pulled a hip flexor in 2007. Took 3 months off to heal. Purchased custom orthotics to deal with leg length discrepancies. Still get inflammation when I push too hard too fast 2 years later. PT and massage therapy help but are not cheap. Am on prescription anti-inflammatory meds prescribed by my orthopedic. Soft tissue injuries are difficult. Patience is a must. Good news is I am able to train at this time without my condition worsening. Good luck and please, give yourself time to heal. Chronic pain and problems tend to suck the joy out of training.

I've had a groin pull twice.  The first time it was 3 weeks getting over it and had to practically stop working out.  The second time, I went to an acupunturist and was 100% within a week.
