What is everyones opinion on using a hydration belt for the run in 70.3. I don't seem to get enough water or drink when taking it out of the cups. Just started thinking about using one. Thanks

i try and practice/train drinking about every 10 mins. . which is probably a little longer then i would have do during a 70.3 run - assuming they have aid stations every mile.  If they do, i will be getting water every mile to either pour on my head or drink (depending on temperature).  it's easier to drink from a bottle then a cup, but i agree with Fred - it is a pain in the azz to have a fuel-belt or water bottle

I was concerned about this getting ready for 70.3 and trained with a fuel belt. When it came to race day I didn't end up using it on the advice of my coach and training partner. There were aid stations every mile and I had no problem getting hydration down. I had some stomach issues on the run and the race belt would have made these worse.

If you're concered about hydration and nutrition go for it, use the belt. Race your own race and have a great time. If you're feeling good at the start of the run and don't need it you can leave it in transition.

I run with a water bottle.  Always.  In training and for races.  I'm so used to carrying it, I can hardly stand to run without.  When it gets a little low, I top it off from the aid stations.  I add my own Nuun tablets.

I dont think I could live without my fuel belt. It has 4 - 10oz bottles. It worked perfectly for my 70.3 and i felt lucky bc they ran out of water at some aid stations...so i was happy i used it. When i get to an aid station i hold the cap in my mouth and refil the bottle. Id rather have the marginal extra weight than end up dehydrated or without water when i want it...

If it makes YOU feel comfortable then use it !

I would practice with it for some long runs before the race, though.  I went through several hydration systems before I found one I liked.

PennState - 2009-06-05 6:43 PM I have used one. I don't anymore. Just slows you down considering they have everything on the course.

Same.  Not needed on all but the smaller minimally supported courses.

I completely agree with using it ahead of time. I had one and realized for it to be not bouncing(not sure if this was a body size issue or my own dislike of it moving) I had to cinch it so tight it would press my stomach in a not good way. When I drank sometimes it would come back up a short time later.
