Champion 14571 the alamo city, Texas | Subject: re:pink tri in richmond ladies doing this race - i rode the course saturday and it was SOOO FUN! this will be a very fun race. of course, i did it at noon after it had hit 95 and was near puking at the end, but the hills are great, easy to climb and SUPER fast on the descents. the worst is right out of the gate, and the last 2 miles are COMPLETELY flat, which will be great for transitioning into the run. only two more weeks!!!! |

New user 7 N. Va. | Subject: re:pink tri in richmond This will be my first tri, too! I was supposed to do the 3Sports tri in Shady Grove, but I had a terrible sinus infection and I hear breathing is pretty important. I live in NVa, but my in-laws are in Richmond, and I got a look at the course last weekend. I was freaked out by how hilly it was. meherczeg -- are you a biking maniac, or am I just being a wuss? I am worried I'll have to push my bike up that last turn onto Coalfield Rd. But I'm relieved to see that last 1/3 is pretty flat. Anyone get a look at the run course yet? I just finished my 'test run' in my neighborhood -- did the 400m in our pool, then 7.2 mi around our neighborhood (we have one killer hill on that loop, so I hit that 6 times, yikes), but then I was really wobbly on the run. Heck, I walked half of it, but considering I only did my first 5K a month ago, that's not too bad. (I've never run before, EVER, before this summer. Oh, and I'm 42 and have 2 little ones at home, so getting training time has been an adventure.) I don't know anyone else doing this race, would love to say hi to anyone from the boards at the pre-race meeting! |

New user 7 N. Va. | Subject: re:pink tri in richmond Woot! I'm now a tri-athlete! I didn't have to push my bike up that last turn onto Coalfield Rd. (my husband even schlepped out to a section right before that turn when I was HATING life to boost my spirits) and I finished before 11am. I had to walk a lot more of the 5K than I planned on so I wouldn't barf, but I met a nice lady to walk with. I wish I lived in Richmond so I knew more of the folks racing & volunteering -- they are 12 different kinds of terrific & super nice. I hope they can get the sponsors, etc. they need so I can do this race again next year! So far, I've only done a 5K and this tri, both of which were all women's races -- and the atmosphere was just amazing. I would be huffing & puffing up one side of a hill and the gal on the other side (also going uphill, as we were going over a highway overpass) would be shouting words of encouragement. What the heck? She's not exactly sitting on a beach towel drinking a margarita over there, either!!! Super great folks everywhere. |

I'm from Richmond, so I am with the Richmond Tri Club and they are all really friendly and encouraging. I know I try to encourage people during the race - especially on the bike going up hills. It's tough! Come do some more races in Richmond. |

New user 7 N. Hubby is doing that one with me*, of course he will have finished before I even hit the water. *provided we can make alternate arrangements for packet pick up due to the UVA Homecoming game on Saturday -- we can't be the only people with a schedule issue b/c of UVa football! |

You are probably not the only one with that issue. Send the race director an email. I know they let people pick up packets the morning of the Tavern tri if it was arranged in advance. |

That's awesome! I knit, but didn't bring it to the race. Instead, I sat around bored on the deck waiting for my swim time. |
