Does anyone have a favorite road tire?  I just got a flat this morning.  I train on some country roads that have loose gravel on the shoulders.  I love these roads for the solitude and the hills, but I need some tougher tires.
Thanks!

I love Michelin Krylion Carbon for a training tire.

Train and race on Michelin Pro3 Race tires. No reason to have different tires for each.

I use Gatorskins for all my training. Not a single flat since I started with them.

I used to use Pro3 Race tires but flatted just about every time I went out on them so I got rid of them and went to GP4000 tires for racing.

Conti Ultra Gatorskins have worked well for me. (700X25). Over 3000 miles with no flats Got them on sale for $27 at Biketiredirect. Also seen them other places for under $35

Specialised armidillos

Insanely heavy. No punctures though.

Cheap yet durable.  Could this not be a contradiction?  Or perhaps just wishful thinking.

Cheap being relative. I've gotten 5,000+ miles on two sets of Michelin P2Rs and am doing just fine on my first set of P3Rs, all with very few flats. At generally less than $40 shipped, this make them cheap and durable in my book.

Bontrager Hardcase Race Lite tires is what I use, both training and in races.  They have Kevlar in them to help reduce flats.  Given how many flats I have seen in races by guys with more expensive and lighter tires, the slight extra weight is worth it in races.

@ 2000 miles I start to check them every ride for small nicks and cuts.  By 2500 miles I replace them as I've found I start to get flats.  But it really just depends on the tire.  I use Hutchinson Fusion 2 (with kevlar).  They are on sale at Performance for like $24.99 normally $64.

If you're having to replace your tires at 2500 miles you may want to try something else.

But, yeah, change them when they show nicks or cuts of significance, or when the tread shows significant wear. Or when you start to have flats.

Thanks for the lead on BikeTiresDirect.  They beat Performance Bike on quite a few items.

These tires are bomb proof!!!

I've had my bike since October 2005 and these tires came as stock.  I have never had a puncture and get about 5-6000 miles out of them.  They're really cheap too (~£16 in the UK).

Forgot to say that I also use the on the turbo as well and they don't wear excessively.
