Suck.  Hence missed workouts this weekend.  That's a health issue, right?

I guess you can say that.

To minimize the effect alcool hydrate yourself between booze or choose drinks with losts of juice. One of the side effect of alcool is dehydratation. Forget coffee right now, it does the same. Your best bet with a hangover is fruit juice or/and vegetable juice.

Best thing I ever found was a product by Gatorade called Gatorlytes.  They're little packets of electrolytes you're supposed to dump in a 20oz bottle of Gatorade which is gonna make it really salty.  Suck that down, rest some more, and you're golden.  The only issue is I don't think they sell them to the general public, only to colleges and pro teams, things like that, but maybe you can find out.

That's why I basically stopped drinking. No alcohol before races or the night before a long run or other important workout. And when I do drink, it's one or two at most.

choke down as much water before you go to bed as you can stand, each hour when you get up to pee drink some more. Take as many multis as you think you can as well. Start replentishing your reserves asap.

I switched to non-alky beer and I wake up feeling like crap still. I might as well switch to real beer again.

Chug a bottle of NUUN before you go to bed, then drink it again in the morning.  Works great!!

Alka-Seltzer Morning Relief was the BEST.  But I think they stopped making it.

This DOES help, in the instances where I've been out and had a few more than I would have liked (though never before an important training session or a race).

FWIW, I set my 10K PR while hungover as all getup.  I was turning green on the rie to the course.  Felt much, much better after the race than before.

I find the best cure to a hangover is gutting out a run. Chug back some water and gatorade once done and you will likely feel way better. The challenge is putting on the shoes and heading out the door......

if i eat a lot of food before i go to bed i tend to wake up less hungover.  i think it's the losing 5 hours of sleep that hurts the most though

Hammer Endurolytes work well after a good night of drinking.

As we get older the lack of sleep hits us harder I'm finding.  I had been on the wagon until I had a house guest (in-laws no less) for 2 months.  Needless to say I fell of the wagon in a hurry and getting back on now, feels great.  My problem is that I don't just have one or two in moderation.  I'm in it to win it whenever I get my drink on.

I hardly ever drink anymore, and if I do its just a couple.  Twice last week, I really over did it, and paid the price. I think I forgot I wasn't 21 anymore for a few days.  I did find that going for my run actually helped.  Don't quite bounce back from those like I used to.

Had my bachelor party (at 38 y.o.) a couple weeks ago and woke up at 11 AM still drunk with an upset stomach. Orange Vitamin water and some more sleep and I was good.  Honestly, last time I drank anywhere near that much was a couple years ago in Cancun and running on the treadmill definitely helped then. It seems like the exercise helps get the blood moving and the toxins out.

Everyone always has the great intention of drinking water in between drinks until you actually start drinking. lol

Bro-in-law SWEARS by eating a burger or something with some major grease in it.  I don't really get hung over, so I've never had the opportunity to test it myself...*ducks*

I was going to recommend the Nuun as well.

OP here -

Just like to throw out that when I saw this thread was back in action from a couple months ago I teared up a bit!  It's one of my first....

Also, I've just plain stopped drinking.  Workouts have been stronger and much more consistent.  I've also been saving a TON of money.

And NUUN is amazing.  I'm not surprised to hear that this can be added to it's list of accolades.

Cheers,

Dennis
