Run
Comments: Since this was my first race above a 5k and all my running for the last 5 months was in zone 2 I wasn't really sure how to pace it. My plan was to run around my lactate threshold HR which I thought was 175 for the first half then see how I felt and push the second half. Miles 1-3 Heart rate seemed unusually high starting right from mile 1. All zone 2 training for the last 5 months which is 148-159, and normally about a 9:00 pace. Miles 3-8 Concerned about my heart rate but felt OK, tried to ease the rate down but it didn't work. Decided to not watch heart rate to much and go by how I felt. Miles 9-13 Miles 10 through 12 were tough, I wanted to walk a little so bad but was afraid I wouldn't be able to start back up, also wanted to run sub 2 hrs. Finish time 1:54:42, beat my goal time of 2:00 hrs. Yeah! What would you do differently?: Warmup better, try running ~ 1 mile about 20 min. before start then stretch Post race
Warm down: changed into some dry clothes then had some soup and cytomax Event comments: Overall I was very happy with my run. Consistent pace throughtout the race was good although I'm not sure I under stand the HR data. 12 of the 13 miles were above my lactate threshold and near my max HR of 192 (is this possible?). Maybe my lactate threshold is higher (is that possible?), will retest soon. Last updated: 2005-04-11 12:00 AM
