As you may have seen from previous posts, I a complete newbie.  I am doing my first tri in August at Hillsdale lake and I am looking to join a club in the KC area for training partners, coaching, etc.  If you have any suggestions or input to either of these clubs I would greatly appreciate it.  I am looking at TriKC or KC Multisport.

Thanks

I am in KC Multisport, seems like they have more organized workout groups, discount on OWS @ Shawnee Mission Park, a web site that is easier to navigate, and when you do a local triathlon you will see and hear KC Multisport.

TRI KC to me was more of a social club than a race/team/club and you don't see many of them wearing thier colors at the local meets either.

Both clubs have great people, I just think there is more happening with KC Multisport.

Another club that is growing in the area is TRIforHim, a religious based club, and a great group of people if you are looking for that mix in your training.

I guess I am not sure what I am looking for.  I want a group or club that is welcoming to someone that is completely new to the sport, but willing or able to help me become a better triathlete, but I don't want a club that is so competitive that it is not fun to be around.  Obviously the other benefits are nice as well, such as discounts to bike shops, discounts on club clothing, etc, but those are not reasons for me to join.

I really would like get involved with a group/club that has a training program or such for newbies like myself.

Based on what your looking for, I would recommed you go with KC Multisport.  Their of plenty of newbies on the roster, but also lots of very fast and experienced athletes you can feed on for advice.  Also, I have never seen a whole lot of chest pounding in KCM.  We are all a pretty humble group of people.  I say sign up, come out to some of the group training events and see for yourself.  If its not for you, at least you walk away with a pretty sweet tri top.

A related question to you KCM members. I've seen and even talked with a few people out at SMP and some competitions and it seems to be good group. However, personally, would you feel it's "worth it" to join up now and pay the annual fee, in the middle of competition season/year, or just wait until the next year rolls around?

The real cost of your membership is in the cost of the jersey you get with your membership.  If you are interested I say sign up now.  Still a lot of training and racing to go this year.  I think you will benefit from joining the group.

on that note, how much is renewal for subsequent years?  I assume you dont get a new jersey every year, right?

You get a new jersey every year and other free bee's from time to time, plus parties free meat and beverages, you bring the side dish, bike training sessions in the winter (not free). I have been doing TRI's for 5 years and always learn something new from the group and in  turn share. You don't have to join to do a Saturday group ride, so come out for a Saturday ride and see what you think, we usually have three to four pace groups with a assigned sweeper,

The fee is the same every year, but I think it goes up after March like $5, should be indicated on the web site.

Well originally, I joined TriKC, but through many reasons, not to be discussed here, I have decided to join KCM as well, and will probably continue my membership with KCM into the future unlike the other one.  I am just waiting for my email and account to be activated to be a full member and be able to access the member's portion of the website.

I have my eye on a wetsuit for next year as well as some Zoot running shoes.

Most of those responsible for taking care of new members just did IM Canada last weekend, so they might be behind a day or two with stuff.

That is what Tim told  me, so I completely understand.

I had planned on doing the group ride this weekend (Sept 5th) but I broke a few spokes last night and BikeSource won't have it ready until next week.  I have never changed a spoke before, but I may have to learn on the fly today, so I can try to get a ride this weekend.
