I did a 50/13 brick yesterday and finished it!  Can you say "confidence builder"?  My race is next Saturday, May 7th and it is my first attempt at a half Iron triathlon.  I am so "stoked" for this race!  Its amazing what a rush I get just thinking about being on that starting line on Saturday morning, looking off the beach into the Gulf of Mexico.  Does anyone else get that adrenalin rush so far ahead of a race?  Man, I wish the race was tomorrow!

If I'm this excited about a half Iron, I wonder what a freak I'll be in November when IMFL rolls around!

Hey Motivated, I'll see you at the Gulf Of Mexico. I'm doing that race (GCT) / Half.
I checked out last years race times online yesterday, and started visualizing kickin' butt! I'm pumped and can't wait! My goal is to place for my age group! See you there.
I'm the 5'10" blonde chic with an Orange Quintana Roo.

Hey Karl, Yes I know exactly what you are feeling. I'm doing Gulf Coast (my first half iron too) and haven't slept the last two nights because my mind is racing with all sorts of details. Good luck next week!

I'll be out there with you folks although from the excitement level and the training intensities I see from fellow BTers, I might be pulling up the rear.....Oh well, it will all be fun either way...

I try to look for all of you - if you see an old, short, fat guy dressed in shocking orange and blue struggling on the run - tell me "HI"! Anything above 50% in my AG would be O.K. This will be my third 1/2IM and believe me you do kinda get used to the "pre-race jitters". Mine don't hit until race morning while I'm setting up my T area.......

See ya'll in PCB,
Paul

Good luck!  I'm sure you'll do great in your 1/2 IM.

Can't wait to read the race report.

Karl -
You are a madman! St. Anthony's this past weekend and a 1/2 ironman two weeks after that. Good luck to all.

Yeah I know what you mean. My first 1/2 IM isn't until June 12th but I'm already getting pumped-up. Just did a 37/8 brick on Monday and it was a great "confidence builder" for me. It felt good!
Best wishes to you on May 7th.

Hi,  I did my first 1/2 Iron in March, then followed with a trip to Boston in April.  I was more excited about the Half Iron, but both events were killer!  If you have that much "A" going right now, I suggest that you be real careful not to hammer your swim or bike, else, you may have a long day on the run.  No fun not to quickly on the half marathon.  In my Half IM, I was really happy to be passing hundreds, yes hundreds of runners.  Stay calm, go quick, but don't hammer is my advise.  Enjoy it, and you will surely be back for more....See you in Florida in November!

I'm going to second the idea of meeting on the beach for a 10am swim....keep your fingers crossed that the wind doesn't pick up too much because it is currently predicted to be from the SSW and in the Gulf this does not mean a nice flat sea......and let's all pray to keep the T-storms away until after we all finish.

See 'ya in PCB,
Paul

P.S. Karla - Thanks again for your offer regarding Sister Madonna ---I think she got hooked up with one of the race organizers family for housing!!

So happy with my results for the Gulf Coast Triathlon.
My goal was 5 hours and top ten for age group. I finished 5:15:44 and 7th for age group! I was pumped, considering it was only my second triathlon.

How did everyone do?

Great time Karla! I had several friends in the race. I kept up with you and Karl's times throughout the morning. Good luck the rest of the summer.

Karla,
Nice job on the placing! My goal was to set a 1/2 IM PR (which had been 5:34:37) and I got that done by going 5:15:19....similar to you but mine put me at 55th in my AG....I either gotta get faster or older!!

Excellent race,
Paul

Wow! That's a GREAT time! You probably passed me on the run, I hope I didn't look all beaten up, he he. Fantastic!
LOL- yes, getting faster or getting older, he he......

I may try another Half-IronMan in Lubbock next month, One in Dallas in September.....
would love to hear of any favorite Half-IronMan's people like / enjoy that are going on the rest of the year. May look at VineMan and St. Croix for next year's Halfs.

I may try an IronMan next year. Maybe Arizona and Florida. Yikes!

Karla,
As far as organization....look into the U.S. 1/2 Championships in Kansas City in Sept...it is put on by the folks at Ultramax and they put on Great Races! There is a limit of 200 "General Entry" slots for the event. However, your time for the 1/2 in Florida would qualify you for the "Championship" field! I missed the qualifying cut-off for my AG by 19 seconds, but I was not racing there this year anyway since it is too close to IMFL! I think I will be going back to GCT next year to specifically put in a qualifying time.

If you are looking for a top-notch event, this is it!

I did the PrairieMan in Dallas last year (it was called "TexasMan" last year...) and I would recommend it as a race as long as you don't mind extreme heat.  The bike course is interesting, with a few rolling hills, and the run course is 95% flat.  The bad news is that the flat part is on the top of a dam, and there is no shade to be found, so if it's a hot, windless day this year like it was last, the temperatures on the dam can reach into triple figures.  But the race organization is terrific, and the volunteers are plentiful, as are the fluids during and after the race!
