I hope it helps. Maybe it'll get me running correctly and this hip pain will leave me for good! I'll let everyone know how it works for me.

Please do--I've been trying some of the techniques that others have spoken of from that book on here...and it has helped. (no shin pain) I'm interested in buying that book, too....if just learning a few tips from it has helped, I can only imagine what reading the entire book will do for my form.

Good luck!!!

LOL--I know!! I was going to go to Borders last night, and just felt too tired by the time I finished working out, cleaning up from dinner, blah blah....

But--it's on my agenda--I cannot WAIT to read this! Used the leaning forward technique again last evening during my run, and it worked so well again!! No shin pain--woohoo!

Brenda...you're gonna love this new form of running!

I've read the first few chapters and am just getting to the actual techniques now. Unfortunately I won't be able to use them until my hip feels better. Maybe in about another week or so.
Too bad I didn't read this book BEFORE my last 5K race....

Aww--sorry to hear that. Well...at least there's a book out there to help you, now. Good luck with it!
ps: Brenda--Does the book have a section on specific stretches to do before running?? I stretch, but sometimes feel like I'm not doing enough--or the right "type" of stretching.

He advocates more of a loosening up the joints before running and stretching after running. And yes there are examples of what to do before and after running.

I saw pictures, but I haven't gotten that far yet. I swore to read the book cover to cover first. Look for updates when I finish.

I just received my copy of Chi Running in the mail today. You can buy it on half.com for MUCH cheaper than at the store, BTW. I have previously been incorporating some of the techniques and have found that my shins stopped hurting.

Can't wait to learn more. I SUCK at running....like really suck. Previously, I wouldn't even run from a bear.

I picked up this book a few weeks back. Still reading and trying to incorporate the basics. I have always been a very slow runner (have yet to break the 10 minute mile pace) and realized my cadence is pretty slow (70+). He suggests buying a metronome in the book (which I haven't done). I would be interested in reading "success stories" on before and after reading the book.

I am not a seasoned runner with many injuries so I was more interested in staying injury free as I picked up more miles. And it would be nice to pick up speed too!

Bought it last year when I was @11min/mi with a max distance of 5K.

Today I'm up to an 8min/mi with a max distance of 10mi, and no injuries so far. (Not running related anyway. The bike's a different story.)

Where it has helped me the most is where to focus my strength and what to watch out for in terms of bad form habits. My shins stopped hurting when I started running from the core, and it helped me fix my posture.

Just this past week after the 10mi race my knees started to ache a little. I went back to some of the basics and it helped me notice that my feet are starting to pronate even though I've always been neutral. Without it I might have just thought that the knee probs were to be expected after longer mileage.

Good luck with the hips. I like to do some yoga for that sort of thing. There are some great hip-openers...
