Pre-race routine:

got up at the crack of pre-dawn. Got to the starting line at about 6:15am. had a banana and a clif bar to eat and a gatorade/water to drink. filled fuel belt with a powergel/water mix and just water (two bottles)

not much... still pretty tight from the hard workout friday (oops!).

I was actually only supposed to do a 10k for the first leg of the relay, but I had it in my head that I was going to run with the wife for her leg (5k right after me) and possibly even more. keep in mind, the longest I've ever run up to now is the five miler for the turkey trot. my pace was comfortable and the toons on the mp3 kept me smiling the whole way. I handed off to the wife at about 53-54 minutes. we then slowed a bit and my lower body started to ache a bit to include the gluts, the calfs, the shin on the right, and both feet. after her 5k, I decided to call it quits. I regretted stopping immediately after I got off the course.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

the idea that I was going to do 26.2 instead of just 10k.

Course: beutiful run! ran from the memorial downtown to the capital and through some neighborhoods. crowds were everywhere!
