Subject: Steak and salmon in college?
Just had to vent..apparently the partners in my firm and I live in different worlds..We were just discussing their kid going to college and how much they were going to spend on feeding him...They hope that he does not eat out too much and that he will use his head and stay in and cook salmon or steak instead...OK I don't know about anyone else but I was living on mac'n'cheese in college and law school and eating out for me was hoping to have enough money to go to McDonald's..Sorry just had to vent since I am being looked upon as some sort of heathen right now..They explained to me how much cheaper it is to buy a $8.00 steak than it is to go out to eat for the college kids...Maybe I am a heathen and just don't know it..

Weeeeellllllll.... was your daddy a lawyer? I can probably count on one hand the number of times I ate steak or salmon in college, but I may have eaten better had my parents been able to fully support me!

I remember that the beefsteak sandwiches that McDonald's use to sell was the closest I ever came to steak...Heck I remember being totally out of cash and having to depend on a Diamond Shamrock credit card for dinner..it's amazing what you can find in a gas station to eat if you have to..

When I was in college, I remember Happycow and I lived on Happyhour food. For the price of a beer and a margarita, we could eat a full (buffet) dinner.

All I remember about eating in college was dorm food.  We used to call the gastronal upset from it "Green Death".  Freshman year in college I came to a halloween party dressed as the "green death".  I won the contest.

Steak and salmon???  I only got steak when mommy and daddy came to visit, and took me out for dinner.

I concur. Back in univesity, if there was ever enough money for steak or salmon, then there was plenty of money to go to the bar. Priorities were a tad skewed, I suppose, but you're only a kid once.

yeah- I ate a lot of ramen noodles. some mac and cheese and more ramen noodles. and i actually gained weight when i moved off campus and that's what i ate because the campus food was so bad that it seemed better to skip meals. a steak would have kept me going for like a week! come to think of it, now that i've graduated, and have a "real" job- steak and salmon are still pretty scarce, but I do see them occasionally. course, once i'm in gradschool it's back to ramen noodles. sigh.

Yep! That's what I ate too. they were like 10 and a half cents a pack so you had to buy two packs!
