I've got one more semester of university/college to go.

I've been doing job interviews the last two weeks and one business offered me a position once I graduate if I'm willing to take it. It's a great job and I think I will enjoy it and it will challenge me.

However...

It is a seasonal based fruit export company that is flat out for the three months of summer. This is when all the triathlon and endurance races are on. He said it will be seven days a week, about 12+ hour days full on for those three months. This is when I want to do the peak of my training to build up for 1/2 IM and full IM races.

There are other jobs out there also, but this one seems to stand out as being a quite interesting and challenging job.

Would you take it? Or choose a less hectic work shedule over summer in another job?

Please give a reason why or why not.

You'll get awesome work experience for giving up part of one tri/race season.  Sure, you'll be slammed those few months but you'll pack your resume for a better job in a (hopefully) improving economy.  And then have time to ENJOy training got a longer distance... and money to buy the toys

In this job market? Take it.  Train hard in the winter and hit early season races (around here they start in April).  You have plenty of time to get to an HIM or IM, it doesn't all have to happen at once.

Well, what is the work like outside of the 3 months. 3 months hardcore work, to me, that sounds like 9 months of training and easy work.

There's more to life than work. I'd never even consider a job that entailed 7 days a week, much less for 12 hours each of them.

You are young. take the chance to live a little and do all those crazy jobs you may not want to do when you're older.

The vast majority of us in this sport didn't get into it until after college/grad school...or even far later. It's a sport that is a lifetime sport. A lot of other things aren't.

Take the job unless you're sure you can find an equally challenging and good job.  Not sure where you live, but jobs are hard to come by in this economy, and if this one interests you and will challenge you - take it!

If it is a good opportunity, take it.  If it sucks, you can always quit.  Who knows, it may turn out to be great (or not).

Yea 7 days a week for 2-3 months sounds not so good...

I've worked 6 days before but never 7 without a break. It is just a job isn't it. I mean, if I got a bit less money at another job but had more time and my weekends to enjoy myself and train I'd probably be more inclined to do that.

And for those people who say enjoy yourself now, triathlon will always be there? Enjoy myself working 7 days a week? Fun???

I just finished 120 straight days of work, averaging around 10-12 hours a day (somedays were only around 4 - that's a day off in my book).  Anyway, had 2 actual days off, and am now on my 15th straight day again.  This goes on for about 7 months or so.  Oh, and I'm on call 24 hours just in case something happens.  It ain't easy, but there's only about 300 people in the world with my job. I'm proud of what I do, happy, and I'm not planning on trading it in to be a desk jockey.  If I were you though, I wouldn't do it for experience or money - do it bc you like what you're doing.  You can find a way to fit the training in, but you have to really want it.  Being miserable at a tough job is a recipe for burnout, and you won't want to do anything when that hits, much less train.
