Very intriguing!

But maybe it's all part of a master plan?  It *does* bring more interest to the Tour -- a little bit more drama.  Can't be bad for advertising revenues...

CHR15 TREE - 2009-07-10 6:46 PM Lance played the team role. But what would Bertie have done if Lance had attacked like that???

Thats the big question, lance did exactly what he should have, no reason to drag all the other contenders along.

Kind of odd to see Lance hold back like that, what a team player. I bet he does not do it again!

Definitely odd, but I'm having a blast watching this everyday and this just adds to it !

I don't think so actually.  With the headwind Contador will have expended a lot of energy riding on his own and hardly gained any time.  Lance did the right thing by holding back and saving his energy for a day when greater time gaps can be made.

My thought when I saw this was "what a brat...he better wear yellow or he's done."

Anyone see Bruyneel this morning?  He said "yes, we just talked about it in the van...We had to calm Alberto down."

Does that mean they were holding him back like you hold-back a stallion or does that mean he was all upset?

If Lance is the only one listening to Bruyneel, couldn't you see that discussion going like this:

Bru- Alberto, if you try something like that again, you'll be riding the rest of the tour alone.  You'll have to get spectators to provide your water and spare tires...
Con- No entiendo, I am estill attacking...aloways attacking...
LA- It's easy to attack when you suck my wheel all darn day.  How about you get up in-front sometime and push ye twirp?

Thoughts?

Bertie: Aaaaah, Monsieur Armstrong! Now we shall dance. And yes, it will be a slow jam.

my opinion is that LA will rock everyone's work in week three. the alps is where the tour will be won. all this beforehand is foreplay.

yes, contador is a great climber but i think LA will put him in his place. 7x has more to do with experience than fitness in a 3week race. buh-bye contador.

^^Good one.  You almost picture those two in those roles don't you...

LA- Heck we're America! We gave the world Trek Bicycles, Cycling Helmets, and GU.  What'd Spain ever give us?
AC- We discovered America, colonized Texas, and invented the Man Thong
Levi- Those are three pretty good things...

Well since I don't like Apple Pie maybe this will still be un-American but I have a pretty good feeling that AC will end up taking the whole pie home to Spain again.  LA is strong but AC blew up the last part of the hill like everyone else was at the finish line (I know they did not chase after him but realistically who could have caught him anyways).

This is like the young dog strutting his stuff around the ladies while the old dog sits on the porch laughing.  Pretty interesting stuff and it should make for fun once they return to the Alps.

Most likely AC would be 2x defender if they let Astana in last year.

Please don't take my citizenship away - I hope LL takes it personally anyways

There's a joke:

Young bull goes to the old bull and says "why don't we run-down and ____ one of those cows?"  Old bull says "Nah, I think I'll walk down and ____ them all."

AC is a champion, but LA is experienced.  We'll see what happens.  As for his run the other day, there's been a lot of talk already about how AC was drafting off the motorcycles and when they pulled-away, he faltered in the wind.  Schleck actually complained about it publicly.  http://velonews.com/article/94913/contadors-shot-across-the-bow-yellow-jersey-attack  but that could'a been sour grapes.  I watched that stage yesterday on DVR and I saw what Schleck was talking about.
