Is anyone else riding the Mountain Lakes Tri in Guntersville next month?  This will be my first tri, and I'm wondering what your opinions are if you've done this one before.

It'll be a great race. I know lots that are racing it, or at least going.

I had to can it due to work, but I would've raced it too. Matter of fact, I've had to can quite a few race...I'm looking at doing this one next year though.

Haven't done it, but am signed up.  First tri as well.

Here is the bike course:

When they say the course is flat, they weren't exaggerating.  Low point to high point on the course is only 30 feet.  Considering the terrain in that area (and around here) I'm surprised that it is so flat.  In fact, I don't know of a good place around here to ride that is that flat.

I have a practice loop setup near my home, but it's nowhere near that flat.  That actually makes me feel a lot better.  I may take a practice run on a saturday between now and then to see what my time looks like.

  • This is my first tri too.  I drove the bike course yesterday and it is flat.  I also ran the 3 mile run and it is flat as well.  my only reservation is the swimming.  That will be my Achilles heel.  If you have any suggetions on swimming I'm open.  thx

Not to worry.  The swim is downhill the whole way.

(Probably dumb question)

Is a swim cap provided?

I hate those things and never did swim with one (even in competition).  Just gotta figure out if I need to get one before I head up there.

caps are included and Team Magic does great events.
This will be my third and all have been ran well.

I am striving to be mediocre and a step faster than yesterday.
This course is supposed to be FAST!!!

This is a liitle off topic but I thought it was a good time to ask since everyone in this thread keeps mentioning how well run Team Magic events are.  I raced the Grandman in Fairhope (not Team Magic event) and Buster Britton (Team Magic) this summer.  The Grandman was awesome and I had a blast!  BB on the other hand was lacking I thought.  The race raining but went pretty well.  After the race, I thought I may have placed so we waited about 45min after the final finisher for them to post the "preliminary" results.  I was thrilled to see my name listed in third place so we decided to wait for the awards.  About an hour and a half later they started to hand out awards.  I checked out my times online the next day and noticed that I had dropped from third to fourth place.

I was wondering if this was a fluke or things like this generally happen frequently.  These have been my only two tris so I don't have much to compare it too.  I will do a Team Magic tri again because they put on most of the races in the area but I kinda laugh everytime someone mentions Team Magic because I was so dissapointed from my only experience with them.
