Ok, I didn't know this was going to be a G v B challenge. What are the terms? How do you determine who wins? What happens if your team loses?

Girls, lets tralalalalala our way to winning!!! GO CHICKIEPOOS!!!

Maybe if you didn't spend so much time wasting your breath on trash talk about the swim challenge, you would have known the run challenge was G v. B all along, Renee.

But in all seroiusness, you don't stand a chance at winning this one, either.

Mike, Just out of curiousity how many miles do you swim a month?

600Bike
160 Run
???Swim

Even if I didn't have to work I wonder how long it would take my body to build up to that kind of conditioning level and still be able to function as a human being. Im amazed.

This is something new for me, trust me. Prior to 2004, I was pretty much an 8 hour a week guy. Even did an IM on 10 hours of training. So - I changed my volume goals to see what would happen and my swimming improved a lot and I ran much better off the bike. Last year I was around 12 hours per week of training. This year, my biking is still stagnant but I am hoping the early season big mileage - Jan/Feb will help once I but back off the miles and add the more race focused workouts the dividends will be there.

Last month was a low swim volume month of 32k - so 18 miles or so. This month my goal is 60,000 yards - about 16k per week, which is 4 swims for me (4k, 5k, 3.5k, 3.5k). Biking will hopefully be around 700 again, and running about 40-50 miles per week.

Adding volume slowly is best, but sometimes you just need to add in a focused month or so - look up my Sport Rotation Article - its all explained in there. Breakthroughs happen b/c you make them happen. Doing the same routine week after week, year after year is good, but if you want to improve you need to mix it up and doing something out of the ordinary.

I am on the guys team. Mike, you are killing me! Tough crowd. I have only been tri training for 8 weeks. 30 miles is a bump up. But as you have insulted me (not really ) Make it 40 miles. That's about the most I can push it for my second full month of training.

40 miles/4 weeks is 10 per week / 4 runs per week is 2.5 per run. No problem for you!

To be specific, Kanoelani means "The Beautiful Girl from Heaven".

Kepola,
Interesting you should know that. Where are you from? I was told it meant beautiful and heavenly mist, but I wasn't sure what heavenly mist was supposed to mean. I guess your definition explains it.

As I am only doing 2 runs per week now, I will have to double the output. No problem! I would like to be able to do a marathon next year, so I guess thiss is a start.

Just a thought...how about something different then guys against gals? Maybe young against umm...(lets just say) us mature folks? OR, some other creative team thing?

Yes..yes..i know I haven't put in a number yet, but i'm trying to figure out what I can do before before and with knee surgery coming up.
