When I saw the thread title I thought, "Oh no, did he use a BUCKET???" (cue horror music)

LOL!

Awesome job on the HTFU and just rollin' with it. Bet you are glad you don't have clipless pedals, huh? A guy at my first tri was running in leather slippers. Always wondered if he did it on purpose...

As for the helmet thing, I always put a note in my running shoes that says, simply, "HELMET!"

Sadly that won't have done me much good yesterday

Oh, and yes the guy with the leather sandels was probably doing it on purpose. Most "barefoot" runners usually wear them to avoid the glass/stones/other crap on the course.

eddied - 2009-07-19 11:05 PM I finished my first sprint today and made a couple funny rookie mistakes as well...

not having a race number belt thingy I just safety pinned my number on my shirt, then placed everything in a pretty pile by my bike like I saw in the video's. So after I finished my swim I was feeling pretty good. Ran into T1, pulled my shirt over my head, and found that I had put the safety pins through both the front and back of my shirt. Made it a little hard to put on...

.

That's down right hilarious.  Laughing

Next time someone tells you to HTFU, you should say, "I raced a tri barefoot, how's that for HTFU?"

Awesome.

I'm a tri newb (2 sprints so far), but after your story I will never complain about a 200m barefoot T1 run again.

Good thing you don't have bike pedals like this:

WTG finishing the race.... and thanks for giving us a good laugh... I just can't wait to see what stupid mistakes I make at my first....

Holy Hard Core, funny stories, and the pics to prove it, Batman!  Great job not throwing in the towel!  That would have ended with a swim for most of us mere mortals.  Great effort man!

True enough! My pedal only had three large flat "spikes" on each side to navigate. Basically I just placed the ball of my foot on the center bar.

PS- I am far from immortal or "hardcore,"  I'm just really cheap:

"I paid to do the entire race dang-it, and I'm sure as heck not gonna stop just because I don't have shoes on"
