Hey guys,

I am looking for some feedback on Road IDs and how they retain their colour.  I don't want to get a red Road ID if the colour is just going to fade to pink with sweat and sunlight.  Does anyone have any fading stories, or non-fading testimonials?  Thanks!

Have a blue one, hasn't faded at all and I've beat it up pretty good. Worn it in the shower a bunch of times. Can't speak for red but that's my 2 cents.

Thanks for the feedback!  I have considered blue as well.  The red vs pink was just the most extreme example (black to grey or dark blue to light blue wouldn't be so bad).  If yours has been good through the shower and regular use, I should be good to go.  Worst case scenario, the straps are only $3.99 to replace.

Thanks again!

I wore mine (blue) regularly for a couple of years in sunlight, salt water & pool water, and never had a problem with fading.

I did, however, have a problem with the velcro getting worn out, and wound up losing it in my last race (I think I kind of felt it slipping during the swim, but didn't realize it was actually coming off, and didn't notice it was gone until I was packing up my gear after the race).  So I got a new one, but would have been better to get a new strap before it got too worn so I wouldn't have had to replace the nameplate.

I would be careful swimming in them in ow though, mine came off during a swim and before I got in, I made sure it was secured. I felt it come off but didn't catch it in time.

I have a red ankle one that I never take off.  I s/r/b with it everyday, leave it on when I shower, even leave it on during the "intimate" stuff (probably TMI on that one huh?).  Haven't had an issue with it fading even with the Colorado sun, I can't vouch for salt water durability though since we don't have any of that stuff here.

Use the dog tag model myself; had it on for over a year; don't even notice it anymore.  The silencer fell off after about 8mths(just got a replacement); thought it might be noisy with my other chain, but no worries.  IF I ever get an intimate moment, I'll see about taking it off.

Does anyone wear the dog tag style of the Road ID - and how do you like it for open water swimming?  I've read several posts that the dog tag and wrist styles are the best for EMTs to locate on your person, but I wear a watch or Garmin and don't want to have something on both wrists. . . .

Thanks!

I have dog tags - they're not the RoadID ones - I just ordered them online with all my contact info and blood type, etc.

They don't bother me when I'm swimming - but I'm a girl - so there's somewhere to "stuff" them. *laughing*  Are you swimming in a wetsuit?  I'd probably just flip them over onto my back - but I wear mine all the time and rarely notice them.

Yes, I would be wearing them with a wetsuit for open water swims.  I suppose its possible that I would just wear them all of the time, but I don't know about in the pool - I could "stuff" them or flip them around, and that might prove to be comfortable.  I just don't want to get something that is irritating, or rubs.  I'll be wearing it for biking and running too.

I've been sweating like a mad man into a black one for years with no discoloration.  I've also done 2 open waters swims with no discoloration.  That said, during my last swim (a half iron, nonetheless) it came loose, and I had to hold it for half of my swim.  It affected my catch, which was irritating.

I wear the dog tag type on a chain around my neck. It is great, I love it.

I wouldn't worry about them for OWS then - if you're in a wetsuit they won't bother you.  I don't wear mine when I swim in the pool - but if you were really concerned you could leave them at the end with your water bottle.  For the bike and run they're under my shirt anyway - but I really need new silencers because mine are a little noisy without.

I've never had any trouble with them.  Remember the chain is basically little beads that roll - so it doesn't catch in hair or on your skin.  I never know I have them on unless they are outside of my clothes.

This is my second set (I moved) - I debated the wrist RoadID - but I love the dog tags.

I wear the dog tag style with the silencer. I have one for my ankle as well, but that for whatever reason bothers me while I am running. I travel a ton and run wherever I am, so I always have one on. I tease my wife and tell her I wear it so they will know where to send the body!

Yellow Road ID wristband on me whenever I bike and run. I sweat like a pig, run in the rain, and mountain bike in the mud and it's still bright yellow a year later. The good news is I'm the only one who has had to read it, and I hope to keep it that way.

Just got my Road ID in the mail today.  I had ordered their new "streamlined style", and the wristband was made with a similar rubber strap as my watch band (Ladies Timex Ironman).  I was able to slip the ID plate off of the bracelet and onto my watch band, and now I know I'll always have it with me (I wear my watch 24/7) and I don't have to wear a second thing on my wrist.  Sweet!

My brother got me the wrist style for my birthday and I have to say it's surprisingly comfortable.  I figured it would be like my watch and I'd always notice it - but I don't even know I have it on.  I've always been a dog-tag girl - but their wrist-style is impressive too.
