I am signed up for the Oly, the only question that remains is can I actually get my butt in gear to be ready.

Ptr1ck - 2009-07-23 12:09 AM I really want to do it but I don't know.  I have never done nor know where to practice an OWS and am pretty sure I would end up 100 yards off course.

As stated earlier, some of the local Tri-clubs do OWS at Grapevine; right off Dove Loop Road is Oak Grove Loop road which will feed you onto Sand Bass drive with a parking area, "sandy" beach where you can swim.  It's got a pretty good shallow area that you can swim along if your new to OWS.

PRICE GOES UP 8-1-09!

If you want to sign up at the lower price... do so before Saturday!

I have decided that I'm doing the Oly! I am downgrading to the White Rock Half marathon, so I can do the Oly at the US Open now!

(My running is coming along so well, I feel like I should focus on shorter distances and ditch the distance stuff for now.)

AWESOME!!!! I'm thinking the Oly distance too!

That's always the problem isn't it. I was signed up for this tri last year and lost all motivation throughout the summer and to add insult to injury I even missed the deadline to roll my entry fee to this year so that was just money down the drain.

In for the sprint. I shall wait with my feet up at the finish and cheer you all in!

If you are a LTF member you get $20 off regular price; plus use code USOPEN79 on the payment page, I repeat payment page only, for another $20 off until 8-1-09. Good deal for this race!

I'm guessing I'm not a member since I don't know what it is, but what is LTF?

I tried to use that and it wouldn't take it. I think I got $20 off for checking the box stating I am a LTF member.

My total was $116 w/my discount. I hope I got the discount. If not, oh well... it's paid for.

What is the swim leg like there? Is it kept close to the shoreline or out into open water? I'm looking to do the sprint, sorry for my ignorance I'm new to the sport.

You leave from the boat dock, go out between the shore and the marina/pier, turn around and come back.  You line up 4 abreast and each group of 4 enters the water every 10 seconds.

I'm signing up... wished I had done so earlier.. $149 is steep!

Anyway, there's a referral program... figured someone should get something free out of it.

From the website:

"If you were referred by a current participant and you would like to enter them in the referral program so they will receive a free bag, please enter their name here and their email address in the box below."

First one to send your name and e-mail will get the bag!

$149, ouch!!!  Good idea on the free bag, great of you to offer that up to people.  I was thinking about this one too, I know there were a few discounts available earlier but I am not sure if they expired (worth checking into at $20/each).

Has this race typically been wetstuit legal in the past?

It's been wetsuit legal every race so far.

It appears the swim location has changed though so we may not be seeing the 4 person TT start. Maybe it'll get changed to larger waves this year. Who knows on that one.

The swim start and T1 have been moved to Lynn Creek park.  It will still be a TT start like the other years (that's what I've been told by the bike course coordinator).

This will be a fun race.  I rode the bike course.  The beginning is deceptively hilly and hard.

www.wetsuitrentals.com

Also RBM rents wet suits.

I did this and was able to try out a suit before purchasing one. I believe both places will apply the rental to a purchase if you purchase one relatively quickly after renting.
