Subject: Converting Tri bike to a road bike
I recently purchased a new Tri bike, and still have my old Cervelo P2K. I was trying to sell it, but had an idea yesterday. Is it possible to turn my Cervelo P2K into a road bike? The seat post/seat can be turned around to put it into the road position. Can I replace the tri handlebars with a typical road bar set up? Should the gears be able to switch over relatively easy?

The reason I'm asking is because on group rides I cant be in the tri position, and the road position seems more comfortable for group/century rides.

Any information would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I had a friend that "made" his Cervelo P2C into a rode bike (for this season) by buying road bars and new shifters.  Works fine for him.

Why not? Kestrel's Talon is a good example of a Road or Tri Bike, so have been some of the Cervelos. Heck, I converted my Tri bike into a Fixie. As long as it fits and you have fun riding it.

You'll need to get a new bar, new shifters, might need cable lengths changed and you might want to change the stem. I find Road and Tri set ups to be different enough that I like to different saddles, so you might find your current saddle not fitting right as you change the fit around.

The Cervelo S1 is a road bike that can be converted to a tri bike, though the geometry is 76 degress in tri mode I think, and 73 in road mode.  For the P2 the geometry is more like 76 & 78, so I think you'll still be in a fairly aggressive position.  It will work, but the handling won't be as good as a true road bike from what I've read elsewhere.
