Total Time = 3h 16m 12s
Overall Rank = 1381/2957
Age Group = F25-29
Age Group Rank = 149/339
Pre-race routine:

Don't really have a routine yet b/c this is my first Olympic. Did a mtn bike sprint in Fall 04, but I'd rather not remember that one.

Try to eat solid food (pb&j, banana) on the drive over to the park. Nothing stays in - I'm too nervous. Go for Sharkies (fruit chews) and Cytomax Pre-formance. That stayed in my stomach. Whew. Watch the college comp start.
Event warmup:

Jump in, swim around to get wetsuit ready.
Swim
  • 34m 45s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 19s / 100 meters
Comments:

Felt like my timing chip was falling off. Stopped 3x to check on that. Goggles got foggy, stopped to wipe them off. Overall, better than expected - I was really nervous about the swim. Managed to freestyle pretty much the whole time.
What would you do differently?:

Secure timing chip differently. Should join a Masters Club or do more intervals for training. I can keep a steady pace, but it's a slow one.
Transition 1
  • 06m 29s
Comments:

Put on sunscreen - good to do, but took more time. Forgot my Gu & had to go back.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster from swim end to trans area, don't forget stuff.
Bike
  • 1h 38m 28s
  • 40 kms
  • 24.37 km/hr
Comments:

Sweet ride! I was really happy that I had my Camelbak w/Cytomax + water bottle on the bike. I had my new Specialized Dolce Elite. No aero bars.

Wish that people actually stayed to the right, but it was pretty crowded. Lots of mtn bikes out there.

Transition 2
  • 02m 59s
Comments:

Seemed to go okay. I had some more water/Cytomax, shoved a Gu in my pocket. Just got Yanks speed laces. Good investment.
What would you do differently?:

Put on hat on my way out.
Run
  • 53m 31s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 21s  min/km
Comments:

Legs felt surprisingly good - maybe b/c I didn't have to pedal the last 1-2km downhill?

My pace didn't feel like 8:37. Felt more like 9:30. Maybe I managed to accelerate through the course. Forgot to look at 5km time.

Was going to slow down a little around km #7, but then another woman came up beside me, said good pace & stuck w/me for a while. A lot of people along the course knew her, so I figured she knew what she was doing.
What would you do differently?:

Push a little harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around a lot. Stretch. Soak legs in the lake. Later I jumped in the water to rinse off.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Some stomach issues during the bike, run. I was really nervous and wasn't digesting solid foods.

Event comments:

Awesome volunteers! Very good, positive atmosphere.

Good experience at Wildflower = signed up for San Jose Int'l in June.
