Subject: RE: VO2 Testing in Mesa AZ Just a quick FYI in the VO2 test. There are some equations out there to determine aerobic training zones. The Maffetone formula is: 180-age = Maximum Aerobic Heart Rate -10 if recovering from illness -5 if you have not been exercising as if if exercising 4x wk + 5 if you have been training for 2 yrs. So if I am 40. 180-40 = 140 the add 5 since I have been exercising. Some to develop my aerobic zone I would train at a HR of 135-145. So far in the testing we have done here that formula is pretty close 80% of the time. However when I did the test, I had a LT of 135 and my aerobic zone came out to be 107- 118 and the max my HR we to was 152. (I was standing and really pushing it on the spin bike with resistance) My point is, the formula does not work for everyone. If I were to training at 135-145, that would be WAY above my aerobic zone. In fact that is my LT training and is totally anaerobic. If you do not do a VO2 use that formula above. But if you feel that is too hard, you might want to get a VO2 done. |
