Subject: People with both full & sleeveless wetsuits
Every Sat, I've been going to the ocean to practice swimming and no matter how much I practice, my shoulders and arms are sooooo tired and exhausted from my full sleeve wetsuit. Today, I did two 1000m swims and no matter if I'm going fast or slow, even on my second 1000m, I'm laboring my stroke. I thought eventually the feeling would go away, but it never does.

Does this ever change or should I fork out the money for a sleeveless?

(Brand of wetsuit is desoto)

I've never used a full except for scuba, where it does feel somewhat restrictive, but it's a heavier suit. My sleeveless has always worked well for me in tris.

I have a full sleeve wetsuit and never even notice I have it on when I swim; no extra fatigue as you describe.  I would think that maybe your fit is not correct or you are not putting it on correctly.

I have a full, and don't get arm fatigue like that either. Try pulling the sleeves up farther. I ususally get 2-3 inches of skin past my wrist before the suit starts.

I agree, Dharma. When I tried on a wetsuit at Sports Basement the other day, I was told I had it on wrong... then she showed me the way to properly pull it on...

It has to be insanely high in the crotch and armpit areas. Work it up by pulling 'wrinkels' up from your calves/forearms, again and again, until you have excess materials in your crotch/arm pits. Then bend over forward and grab material around your abdomen and pull that up to your neck.

I do get some fatique in my arms, but not nearly as much as you mention. Try wearing your wetsuit higher and see if that makes a difference.

I've worn both sleeveless and w/sleeve...

Once you find a full wetsuit that fits, you'll wonder why you even needed a sleeveless (as I did).

Assuming you put the wetsuit on properly, the problem you described is the result of a poor fit.

And, since you noted it was a DeSoto... call them up and ask them for a larger size... they are very easy to work with... the two pieces provide the greatest fitting option of all wetsuit designs. Once you get the right fit, the sleeve shouldn't be any problem.

Thanks everyone for their replies.

I think maybe I just didn't pull up the sleeves, because I did email Emilio at Desoto before I purchased it and gave him my measurements.

I'll try again this weekend.

I have a Desoto T1...  I've also noted that the sleeves have to be not twisted when you put them on...  It seems that my wrists are rotated a bit differently when I reach to put a long-sleeve something on than when I am swimming, so I had to take special care to note where the sleeves should go on my suit.

Just a thought...
