Hello everybody. My name is Chip Dale; I am a big guy (6'4" / 340 lb) from Houston Texas; and I am brand new to triathlon and BT. I used to run a little bit (some 5k's) and barely finished one duathlon last year. Since then, I have slowed down, quit running, got fat and big-time out of shape!

Triathlon has always interested me, so I want to use it as a basis for some new fitness goals. Michael Pate's book "When Big Boy's Tri" really hit close to home, and his determination is a huge motivator for me. But right now, me finishing a sprint-tri is about as challenging as most people finishing an ironman; not impossible, but definitely a tough challenge.

My biggest fear is to jump in too hard and too fast and either burn-out, get injured, or just die in the streets. So I plan to start very slowly with walking and light riding. I do have a heart rate monitor, so I also plan to initially train by heart rate and time, and not by speed and distance.

I really enjoy all of the motivating stories and blogs on BT. Thanks. Hopefully I will be able to contibute someday soon.

Hey - welcome to BT !

Check out some of the plans here --- they are really helpful.  Your plan to not die on the streets is a good one Seriously, though, it's a great idea to start out slowly .

It is always nice to see the Houston peeps coming out and joining the BT site.  Welcome!  All kinds of good info & good times to be had.  Keep an eye on the Texas thread for local training ops and other fun stuff.

Welcome aboard!  I'm a short (fat) guy.  I started swimming in January and did a relay team sprint tri in June.  That's what got me interested in it.  I decided to do a mini sprint tri next spring.  I too am starting out slow, but after finishing the swim (and started thinking I wasn't going to make it!)  I know I can do it.  I won't be out there to win, just prove that I can do it.

Hey pal.  there's only room for one of us in this city so you better start losing some of that fat real quick like.

WELCOME TO BT!   I'm over in the NW.  Lots of folks up in your neck of the woods.  C'mon out to the Bridgelands next Sunday and say hey.   Should be a good time.

Thanks for the heads-up on The Bridgelands next week. It looks like a good opportunity to come out to watch and learn. The lake looks kind of intresting; I guess man made? I suppose that's a nice compromise between a pool swim and the natural waters.

Good luck to you!

A bunch of us will be there, it would be great to meet you!  Also, I know Bridgelands is still looking for volunteers which would be a great way to see the race up close and personal.  If you are interested PM me and I'll give you the information.

Welcome Laughing
