Subject: Did something fall off of my new bike?
I got a Cervelo P1 last week and have 4 or 5 rides on it, approximately 100 total miles. Today I hit a pretty good pot hole at speed and heard a nice loud creak. I gave my bike a quick once over and everything seemed fine. It was a sound I had never heard before on my specialized road bike though so it was a bit disconcerting.

Fast forward 5 miles and I feel something hit my left pedal and then a metallic sound of something hitting the road. I stopped, went back to look for what it could have been, but found nothing. My recollection was it felt like I had kicked a small coin. Of course at 20mph it could have ended up anywhere if it was indeed off of my bike.  Edit: It could have been from the road, but it hit the top of my shoe so it seems to have come from above which is why I'm suspicious.

All of the mechanical systems work and appear to have all of their parts. The only thing that looked like it could have been out of place is behind the front fork. I'll post a picture. Is there a missing bolt cover here? Judging by the amount of dirt I pulled out when I cleaned it off after the ride I'm guessing it's been open since I got the bike and there is no missing part.

Anything else I should check? As I said, the bike is new so I'm not familiar with it yet.

From an aerodynamics perspective, behind the fork = no bolt cover needed IMHO.  If you really want one though, you can cover it up with some tape.

Try checking the screws for the cleats on your shoes.  If a screw fell out and the cleat moved it could have felt like something hit the top of your shoe.

Serious Bike envy.
I literally promised my wife this morning that I would not even think about a huge bike investment until the end of my second season, and you had to go and post this.

x2 on checking the cleat screws. And no, you never find them on the road.

Checked the cleats, they look ok. There was some traffic on the road so I suppose it could have been something a car had kicked up. I'll check my bike once more before the next ride and pay attention at the start. Thanks for the suggestions.
