I'm traveling from Hawaii to Arizona for my first IM.  I need some help thinking out the return flight.  I would like to fly home monday because it's much cheaper and I'll miss less work.  The problem is that the flight leaves at 8:05 in the morning.  I'm not making that flight, am I?

You can, but you won't like it

Depends on what time you finish. Either way, it will be not so much fun, but you'll be home.

One word = OUCH.

Personally, I wouldn't do it.  You have NO idea how your body is going to react to the IM.  You might be totally trashed and unable to get out of bed.  You might be fine.  You may spend the night at the hospital.  You just don't know.

That being said...if you are going to do it, you'd better have someone traveling with you to get you out of bed and to the airport.  On your own, it's going to be really tough.

And I'm just going into my nag mode.....  drink drink drink and rehydrate right after the race.  Drink water on the plane, walk around every twenty minutes.   Do not go to sleep for an extended period.  Wear compression socks on the plane

OK, enough (google triathletes and blood clots if you want to know the reason for the post)

I just did an IM on Saturday and then drove 800 miles on Sunday.

If you want to do it, you'll be fine. It would be nice to relax if you can but it is entirely up to you.

Oh... might be rougher on you since it is your first IM. Plus you won't get to see everyone trying to pick up juice or water out of the kiddie pool they put all the beverages in at the award ceremony on Monday.

You can see it, however, at Friday nite's athlete's dinner.

Other things you will miss if you care - won't be able to retrieve your SN bags, won't be able to buy photos on site (was pretty convenient, and we were told if we bought them all then, it was cheaper than later ($100 or so), but maybethey were playing us

Just booked it for Wednesday.  Had Tuesday been the same price, it would have been easy, but for $$$$ more I had to make a choice.  Thanks for helping me make it!
