Hey all,

so things are slowly moving along with the move to VA.  Does anyone know the Beaver Dam reservoir in Ashburn - ZIP 20148?

I was looking at some schools and properties in the area and noticed the dam on the maps, just wandering if it's a swim location for a bit of OWS?

would be an added bonus :-)

No, it isn't, there used to be a group that swam there 2 or 3 years ago, but I think they got arrested.  Since then, I don't think much OWSing goes on there.

I think that in general, there are very limited OW swim options in any of the lakes nearby

Very true - the summer's best option seems to be the Pohick Bay swims, that I think are new this year, and there are one or two other clinic type things where you can take lessons, however none of these options are free, and they follow a certain schedule. Most of the lakes around here do not allow swimming, or only in a very limited "beach" area.

I know that most of us here already know all of this, but the OP is moving over from across the pond, so I figured this information warranted repeating.

There is the Reston Lake Swim and the clinic for it... but again, the lake isn't open for regular swimming :0(

There is one other option around here, Rehab to Racing does an OWS in a quarry in Haymarket.  They do it every other weekend.  The water isn't as cold as they describe on the site.

Thanks for the info, will take a look at the Rehab to Racing site.

What a shame it's so restricted around the area, never mind I'm sure when i get over and find a tri group they will have scheduled swims.

thanks again for your responses.

I live in 20148 and have kids in the school system if you have questions.  There is no open water swimming in the area, but we do have a great 50 meter pool our tri team rents for the summer!  We also have a very active tri team with approx 80 members in the 20148 vacinity.
