Who's volunteering and where will you be?

I'm totally pumped and ready to support our AMAZING BT athletes! (There are 131 BT athletes signed up!)

Last year, I didn't have a way to identify myself as a BTer while I was volunteering, so this year, I'm making a peel and stick BTlogo that I can wear on the front of my volunteer shirt.  I'll make several sheets of these so if anyone else wants to wear one, we'll be more easily identifiable.  I'll be at atlete checkin on Thursday afternoon and all day Friday, so I'll be easy to find.

Here's my schedule for the weekend:
Thursday & Friday - Athlete Checkin
Saturday - bike checkin (2:30-6)
Sunday - Swim finish special needs
T2 Transition (11:30-3)
Changing tent (3-6:30)
Finish line (7-12:30)

I'm working Thursday check in 9:30am-2:30pm. I'll be in my bright yellow BT shirt, if they make me wear a volunteer shirt the yellow will certainly glow through.

Found out Sunday night that our bike course volunteer location will be at the turnaround on Hwy. 1694, so we'll get to see everybody.

Hmmmmm.  Did you consider your T2 time when you decided on those shorts?

I'll be HAPPY to dress you and kick your a$$ out on the run course so I can head to the finish line and wait for you to cross!

edited because I forgot that a$$ was a naughty word.

To everyone flying/driving in - welcome to Kentucky!

I'm slated to be a swim course marshal, with no idea what that really entails (do I get a sheriff's badge?), other than I'll be positioned somewhere near the swim start (Tumbleweed).

5:30-9:30am.

If you're feeling nervous and need a good kick in the pants, just seek me out.  Will be wearing a blue Pearl Izumi jacket (it's supposed to be 55 degrees in the morning!!!!) and a white PI visor.  Name's Jeff.

Good luck, have fun, and enjoy the weather out there on the bike and run.

Mike and I worked the volunteer tent Saturday from 10-3:30pm. We checked in all of the bike and gear folks that day. Then, yesterday, we were finish line catchers from 2:30-10:30pm. That was an absolutely amazing experience. I am sure that we caught many of you. I just want to say how amazing all of you are as athletes. To see first-hand what you put into this ironman-thing, and what so many of you leave on the course is just amazing. I consider it a real treat to be able to help out. Great job to all of you BT IM KY finishers!!

Our family had a such a fun time volunteering for IMKY the past four days, met so many nice folks.  I cannot begin to imagine how it must have felt for the athletes as they crossed the finish line and heard YOU ARE AN IRONMAN!
I know I saw each one of  you Sunday as I was the dude at the top of the 1694 turnaround that said "watch the turn, easy on the turn" approximately 2800 times. Laughing

Congratulations everyone.

I had a great time volunteering, over the past few days.  All the volunteers were great, but I would like to say that the athletes were absolutely amazing too.  They were all so grateful, and didn't miss an opportunity to say thank you.  Will be back again next year to volunteer, and then 2011.....maybe...just maybe....I'll be on the other side.  Congrats to everyone!
