Subject: Help me spend my birthday money!
I'm going shopping Monday night at the local tri store with some birthday money ($1000) and I'm having trouble deciding what to get. I want to get stuff that I don't necessarily need, but just want because it's cool.

Here are some things I've been thinking about getting "some day" that could be candidates:

1) Kickass HRM made for Multi-sport - can't decide which one though. Plus, I have a HRM already so I don't really *need* this but I want one that will let me time my splits and upload to my computer and mine doesn't do that.

2) Upgrade my bike. Maybe add aero bars, maybe race wheels. I don't think I have enough to upgrade my components (I have Tiagra now), but maybe I could upgrade parts of them?

3) Tanita Ironman Segmental And Full Body Composition Monitor - because it's awesome and I'm obsessed with my body fat percentage. Plus it's a totally unjustifiable purchase which makes it a perfect birthday gift. :D

4) Bike shoes made for triathlons (faster transitions, baby!)

5) Newtons (it's getting to be time for new running shoes anyway - wait, does that make this too practical?)

Anything else you could suggest that would be cool that I haven't thought of.

I say dope (easton or mavic or zipp) rear wheel.

I would say a wheelset but that'll run you over.

Happy B-day!

Aerobars: $100
Fitting: $150
Stuff for fitting (may or may not need depending on how your fitting goes) - $100ish (seatpost, and stem)
Garmin Forerunner 305 + cadence = $175ish
Bike Traininer (for winters, how cold does it get in Norcal?) - $250
Balance:
Technical Clothing - wetsuit if you don't have one and/or technical clothing (cotton = fail)

Hope this helps! I may be off here or there on the pricing

3) Bike Fitting ($150)

I love the Garmin Edge 705 bike computer, I can't live without it! It's about $500 but it's my favorite bike gadget and I also have a 305 but I don't like it anywhere near the 705. I suggest the 705 and some of the other things suggested by others.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I have had a bike fit recently, but I assume if I get aero bars, I'll have to get another one? I kind of knew that but hadn't budgeted for it, so it's a good reminder.

I do have a wet suit and lots of technical clothing. But I haven't got any top of the line compression gear, now that I think of it. I do have some UnderArmour compression shorts and one top and I like them so maybe something more heavy duty??

I'm kind of "eh" on an aero helmet. It's probably an irrational prejudice though. They look dorky. And my personal heros don't have them. I could be convinced though, with the right arguments.
