Subject: What would you do? - Injured Shoulder
I was lifting today (no this is not a thread on if I will get faster if I lift weights or not) and separated/subluxed my shoulder.  I did this a few years ago doing pushups (Dr said it was just from overuse and strengthen it to make sure it wont happen again) so it is not a brand new injury but it is not a regular occurance.  My problem is I have my A (and only) race of the season in 2.5 weeks, Olympic Distance.

I have been a lurker here for years and I have learned a ton of things and figured why waste my time at my Dr office when I could ask you fine folks (I pretty much know what my last Dr would say...rest, ice, here is a sling, and have a referral to physical therapy to strengthen it...I was strengthening it).  I am not trying to offend the Drs out there and would love to hear your thoughts too.

What would you do in this situation?  I have a pretty good base, was in the middle of my Quality/speed work phase and was one week shy of starting my taper.  Thoughts on rest this close to the race, alternate training ideas...

1) I would go to a Dr. and make sure nothing really serious happend.

2) I would do what the Dr. tells me- ice/rest/etc.

3) I would stop swimming till the race to see if I could still do the race. Taking 2.5 weeks off swimming won't kill you. And if you are a "swim chick" then it really won't hurt you. Not being a smart @ss- just saying if you are a swimmer... then 2.5 weeks off will be fine.

Yes, I am a swimmer by background.  No offense taken.  I am more worried about the run than anything.
