I've been riding with thorn resistant tubes since virtually day one on my bike.  Arizona = Thorns and riding with standard tubes leads to frequent flatting along my normal biking routes.  I was replacing a slow leaking tube today and idly wondered if there would be any appreciable difference on race day between the thicker thorn resistant tubes and standard ones.

For those who may not know, the thorn resistant tubes are much thicker than a normal tube where the tube would meet the road, but the sides and top are about as thick as a normal tube.  They are a fair bit heavier and stiffer than a normal tube.

Unless a few seconds is going to make or break your race it's not worth the effort. Don't fill your water bottle all the way and it will have about the same effect.

That is pretty much the answer I expected.  I wasn't sure if the thicker rubber might make a significant difference in the rolling friction of the bike or not.
