I use one occasionally when there is no one else to watch the kiddo and I really NEED to get out and ride.  It is very much like dragging a big parachute behind you as you ride, so don't think that you will be setting any pr's with the kids in tow, I find that I ride at least 3-4 mph slower with the trailer than without.  That being said, it is great for adding resistance and strength training to your ride. Just make sure that you got yourself a good model that rolls easy, or it could be like dragging a boulder behind you.

My coach does that quite a bit, so make do with your training how you can.

Last summer, I trained at least once a week with kids in tow in the trailer.  It was very hard, but if you have small ones, sometimes it's the only way to get a ride in.  This year I got a trainer, and I prefer that to pulling the trailer, so I only use it for family rides around the neighborhood...even still, we love it, and use it often.

I've used a trailer and also a trail-a-bike. It's nice to get solo rides in, but family demands can make that impossible. In the summer, we do lots of rides to go get ice cream. After pulling kids along, you can really fly by yourself.

It's a great way to get resistance in your training rides!!!

You don't want to fly down the hills and take hard corners with one, but they do make you work harder on the flats and up the hills.

Plus you get to spend time with the kidsUndecided

HALE YES!!!  Load up on the weight and hammer it out!  Hit the hill training!  The kids will last for HOURS in the trailer as they watch the world go by.  Throw in some snacks, drinks and toys and they'll go even longer.  I've had both of them in the trailer.  Gracie (show below) is now 8 and way to big to fit, but she rides her own bike along side of me now.  But Kyle, 5, will still hop in.  I had a great route that had the halfway turnaround mark at 17 miles at a farm where the kids could get out, take a break and look at the animals.

Check out eBay - you can find new stuff at great prices.  That's an InStep and I've probably put close to 1,500 miles on it in the 7 years I've owned it.
