Just a reminder to wear your helmets and MAKE SURE they fit properly (although everyone on this board likely already does this).

On Sat morning I inadvertently veered onto a soft shoulder and did an end-o at 30mph.  I regained awareness 20 minutes later as the EMTs were putting me on a backboard.  Surprisingly, other than a concussion and a broken rib, no serious harm done.  But judging from the remains of the helmet, it saved my life!

Be mindful on the roads -- a moment of lost focus, and you'll be getting a ride to your local hospital.

Now I have an excuse to buy a new aero helmet!

Glad to hear you are alright. To channel Hill Street Blues,  "Let's be careful out there!"

I'm glad you're OK...

The only thing you can really tell from the appearance of your helmet is that it protected your head. Just like indy cars that hit the wall, bike helmets are designed to dissipate energy, so they fall apart/break/scrape easily.

I only bring it up because the anti-helmet people will be quick to point out that there's no way you can know if the helmet saved your life, and they're right--there's not.

That being said, I wear mine all the time and everyone else should too.

I second the motion.

Was in a race this weekend and hit the side of a sewer manhole cover that was 1-2" below the road surface.  It grabbed my front wheel (kind of like going off the road or over rail road tracks) and over the bars I went going 20-25 mph.

Wasn't as serious as yours...  ended up with road rash and a very sore leg which managed to lodge itself in the front triangle of the bike.  I was cleared and allowed to continue.  Since it was a sprint, I went on.

Hope you recover...

Wow, glad to hear it wasn't worse.

4 of us went for a 20 mile canyon ride together this morning; on the way back down I saw a guy riding up without a helmet.  After being buzzed by cars and motorcycles all morning, it seemd to be the worst judgment call possible.  Your story proves it, again...

glad you are ok!!

I would not want to be the one in testing if a helmet would or would not save my life. i will take for granted the engineering behind them and use them!!!

thanx again for the reminder!!!
