I have about $300-400 worth of sporting goods that I haven't used for 3 years in my garage at home.

Should I sell it off to buy triathlon stuff? I'm definitely not going to play competitive cricket again, I might play the odd social game in the next 5-10 years...

Do you guys sell off your old sport gear you no longer use?

If it's just going to be the odd social game, you can probably borrow gear. Have you done a triathlon yet? I'd wait until after so you can see how you like it. You'll probably get bitten by the bug, though, so to speak. Good luck!If you've done one and know it's something you want to do, I'd sell off the cricket stuff. Tri gear you will definitely need and use a lot.

I've done tris for 2 years, hence the reason I don't use it.

Same boat here.  I definitely have too many hobbies and now with young kids, I don't have time for any of them.  I am in the process of selling my scuba gear because I just don't have time for it any more and to be honest I would rather be out training any way when I do get some free time from the family.  My scuba diving always seemed to be 4-5 hours away from home and that is something I just can't give up right now, my family time is too important.  Scuba gear gone....new tri stuff on the way!!!

I know nothing about the gear needed for cricket, but I know gear in general. If you use it once a year, and you have the room to store it, I think it's good to keep it.  Having your own gear means it is easier to make a last minute plan to do something that you presumably enjoy.  If the gear is too outdated to be of much use (I have a pair of skis that are 16-17 years old, and I haven't been able to ski since I blew out my ACL), they may make good decor in your manspace (you DO have one, right?)

OTOH, if you haven't touched it in a year, and they are still of some value, then yes, you should sell it.

its none of my business to tell you how to spend your money but if I havn't used something in over a year I typically get rid of it.

Have you used the gear outside of the garage?

I sold off a several hundred $$ worth of climbing equipment to help fund my first road bike purchase. I knew I wasn't going to get back to it and it was taking up space, so out it went.

If it's collecting dust and can be replaced with something you'll use, why not?
