I am scheduled for this one as well! What can you tell about the swim? From the course map it looks like it runs relatively close to shore. ?  How is the bike course along 23?

The swim looked REALLY short when I got out there.  It winds up it is an out and back along the outer limit markers  of the beach swim area (it is probably 4-6 feet deep).  The waves (of people not water) were small.

The run to T1 is pretty long - easily 200 meters.

The bike is along 23 it goes north to a turn around and back to the park entrance where you head back up 23 for a second loop.  Then go the last mile or so to T2.

That is saying something considering that the Newark bike path has, uh, no hills! Sweet!

The first half mile may have a +2 % grade  then then on 23 there are no rolling hills and a negligible grade.  the finish half is -2%  so- yeah.  It is a flat course.  You do have 3 hair pin turns that'll slow you down but other wise it is fast.

its a lot like racing on the bike path. a coned off lane of 23.

you get out of the park, then you go out and back twice, hten back the two miles into the park.

I will be a solid BOPer, considering that 1) this is my first triathlon of any sort, 2) I lost 5 days of training last week because of an ugly bout of food poisoning that landed me in the ER, and 3) I'm kinda slow no matter what. Trying not to be last, but finishing at all will be accomplishment enough for me on this one!!

Think it'll be too warm to be wetsuit legal? I hope not. I can use every bit of help available.

I am a BOPer too, BOPers ROCK!!!!!!!

High for the day is suppose to be 70, so I think high 50's low 60's at race time.  Water probably will be wetsuit legal, either way its gonna be a chilly one to start.

Hopefully I won't be the only wetsuit wearer there....at least I'll be easy to pick out of a crowd, right?

BOP or not, I am in it to finish and have a great time. Training for this has gotten me into better shape than I've been in years, and that includes my big-time running days.

Hope the water is not too cold, as I do not have a wet suit yet.  Anybody know if there is race packet pick up at the park on Saturday?   Or will I just have to wait until Sunday morning to get it?

I'll be cheering everyone on this weekend.  My wife is doing this as her first relay so I will be watching our son instead of racing.  I'll be the red-head pushing a stroller around all morning.  Good luck to all.

Race packets will be available on Sunday morning, from their website.

This is my first tri also.  I did a run through last weekend at the park.  The water was surprisingly warm considering it was low 60s when we got to the park.  Should be the same tomorrow.  Water should be cool enough for a wetsuit.

Running the Mink Trail can be a challenge much narrower and hillier than the bike course.  Potential that it'll be off the trail if the weather doesn't stay dry enough.  Just be mentally ready for watching the trail as there are sections of roots, one rocky hill, couple of little, little creeks and a set of large pipes you'll have to jump over.

I'm really excited, I'll be working with my transition area today.
