I did my swim this morning at Alum Creek, just down the road.  Water was a little cool, but once you do some warmups you'll be fine.

AAARGGGGH! My tyri shorts are missing. As a result it may be a scary sight: Speedo. But that will go well with my mustache. I normally have a goatee, and for races I shave but tonight I went to an '80's party and left the stache - I think I'll go with the Mark Spitz thing.

ah yes.  though i wore nothin but a speedo for the whole race I maintained my pre and postrace modesty with my superman jammies.

I was thinking on my way home that for the next race I could make a BT banner and post where it will be so we could find eachother.

Yes, we definitely need to figure something out for the next race to meet up. I'll actually be doing some swimming here soon at Alum to train for Toyota. I'll let you guys know when I plan on going.

Brue, it was good to see you again, and the Speedo, in my opinion, was an unfair advantage. It distracted the other competitors and offered some crazy aerodynamics I saw the results and it looks like you did better on the bike than you thought. Congrats on the win in your AG. Great race!

I set another PR on the bike this race. Overall, i'm happy with the race. It was a lot of fun. It looks like the transition times are missing. Hopefully, they get them posted as well. I look forward to meeting more of you guys.

Dan - your bike is even faster than is currently posted because as of now T1 and maybe T2 is included in it.

I agree the Speedo (and Mustache) probably gave me an unfair advantage so I will go back to legal attire for the next race.

I knew my run would be slower by a minute b/c of that crazy twisting, creek jumping, wet trail and I didn't feel I put 100% into the run but I was still surprised with a 22:08 -My slowest 5k lifetime under any conditions.

The results have a few anomalies.  3-5 swimmers going in the wrong group (giving them 4-8 minutes free) and one biker who did the ride in 1 second.  So the overall winner, who in the results is listed 4th in the swim and 2nd on the bike actually was first in both categories.  The anomalies didn't affect my overall standings but Dan you finished 1 higher (27th place did a 4:11 swim) places 67 108 198 also were incorrect.

Overall I had a great time at the race.  I planned to leave early but wound up taking off at 10:45.

My new goal: to be fit enough one day to be disappointed with a 22:08 5k.

How'd it go for all the first-timers?

Overall enjoyed the event, got a little concerned when the rain started hitting during the biking.  I struggled through my first open water swimming event, lost focus on my stroke/breathing thinking of the other racers.  I also allowed myself to get my pace too slow for the running.

Can't complain, I beat my goal by almost 4 minutes.   Gotta map out my training for the off-season to get ready for next year.  My wife can't handle another event this year, though I may sneak in some 5K/10Ks.

This was my first Tri...making the transition from duathlete to triathlete.  The swim was the worst part for me.  I panicked a bit at the start and couldn't get my breathing pattern down and ended up having to mix quite a bit of backstroke into it. I finished but was painfully slow.  After that it was smooth sailing.  I made up a little bit of time on the bike and run that I had lost in the swim.  This just solidifies that I definately need a lot more work on the swim portion.  Overall I had a blast and can't wait to continue training and do my next tri.

this was my 8th and final sprint tri of the year - it was my fastest swim!  I think the course is fairly accurate, maybe a little short of the advertised 704 yds (.4 miles) but it does include a 200 meter run to T1.

1:19/100yds

if I could only put my best transitions, bike and run all in the same race.

Fastest T1 0:25 Columbus Challenge  ~50meter in trans straight shot paved

Fastest Bike 21.96 mph Alum Creek Fat Rabbit - 12.43 miles paved

Fastest T2 0:39 Columbus Challenge  ~50meter in trans straight shot paved

Fastest Run 6:22/mile Columbus Challenge 5k

Highest finish - 2nd overall/111 Youngstown central YMCA
Best performance overall Columbus Challenge with best T1, T2, and run, good bike and average swim -3rd overall.

Does anyone know if there were photos taken during the race? I would like to see if, for the first time in my life, I have a half-decent finisher's photo. Considering my history it's not likely, but a girl can dream!!

I haven't seen a link for any race photos on the site.  My wife does all my race photography.
