I believe that a true tri transition bag has nice little compartments for your stuff...one for bike helmet, cleats.  Another for running gear.  I guess its convenient for those who are forgetful since if you don't have something in its place it will stand out.  Me...this is so far down on my list of tri gear that I want to get that I probably won't ever have one.  A nice big duffel or sports bag is more than sufficient for me.

I use a backpack too. Plenty of room for all my gear and didn't cost a thing....it was a castoff from one of my children.
