I will not get lost.  Well, not on the race course.  In my head is another matter.  It's dark and empty up there.

There were a few mile markers on the bike course.  I remember clearly, because they made me say "Oh f%$^, I still have that far to go?"  Just make note of landmarks on your bike computer on the first time around.  Then you can know what you have left on the second loop, where it really matters.  There is a big hill at the end of both loops, just before the turnaround/end.  Remember to save a little extra for that.  I didn't.

Run course, I don't remember.  Then again, they could've floated away with all the rain we had.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that wants to check out Rude's stealth bomber.  That thing is bad .

Weather is getting better all the time.  Keep  the positive thoughts coming.  BTW-  It's not fair, all I have to ride is a bicycle.

Rudedog's bike made me very envious... then I looked at mine and, I'm happy now.  Here she is all ready for the HIM.

My bike is ready, am I?

Will you knock it off already.  You trained more consistenly then Michael Jackson took injections of painkillers.

Michael, you've put in the work... without question -- you even worked hard on your biggest limiter: running.  You are headed toward a very sizeable PR.  I'm willing to bet all my doggy biscuits on it.

Oh, and I'll just apologize ahead of time for beating you out of the water

Where's doofenshmirtz?  Probably out trying on some goggles he found pool side

Rudy: mscotthall's name is Mike.  Scott is his middle name.  Or you can just call him what Charlie calls him: The Billygoat!!

I think a wee bit of Taper Madness may be setting in.  Maybe.  Maybe I'll just catch a movie tonight.

Hey guys... First post here, first half-ironman, as well...

Not really concerned about time, more concerned about finishing. OK, that's a moderate lie - I'd like something between 6 and 6:30. But yes, I'm all about just finishing.

I'm an SBR member here in NYC, hoping to see a few other SBR members out there as well.

Glad to see others out there as well... Trying not to be too nervous.

Cheers,

-Peter

Taper has nothing to do with your madness, Bobby.

This was my first HIM when I did the race last year.  I wasn't disappointed and I'm sure you guys will feel the same way.

Taper has nothing to do with my madness?  You mean all my craziness is a sole result of the alien expirements performed on me as a child?

WHERE ARE PICS OF THE BAT BIKE??

You know, Gary - I thought my Felt was all that and a bag of chips until I raced the NYCT this summer - I swear, I saw bikes with thrusters on them, GPS chips, O-rings, solid rocket boosters that detached and fell into the Hudson to be reused... It was insane.

It's like that in any sport, though - There's always something better, you know?

Bat-bike new:

The Bat-bike as it stands now.  Raised bars for distance comfort.  One day I'll have a set of wheels like Rude.  Needs a once over before the race.

Satisfied, Robert?

Oh man all  your guy's bikes make mine look like a fisher price bike!! haha oh well I'm glad i did alot of my practices in the wind  and cross wind. Went to Montauk earlier this week and forgot how windy it could be up there. Took a ride through  the bike course I don't "like" that hill when you turnaround near the lighthouse but the view throughout the bike course it really amazing. I'm not sure which hill was "murder hill' is that only on the run course?

I will be getting to Montauk tomorrow night (Friday) as i have 4 friends doing the Saturday sprint. Does anyone plan or want to ride the sprint course to loosen the legs up Saturday??  I always like to do a light slow ride the day before the race, just to make sure the bike is in good shape and such. Any takers??

JackieSBR - 2009-10-01 1:15 PM  I'm not sure which hill was "murder hill' is that only on the run course?

"Murder Hill" is on the run part, way off the Bike course, north of transition.  Murder Hill is actually a short series of rolling hills bunched together, and in ALL HONESTY they are not that bad at all.  They are nothing close to the Hill on the bike by the lighthouse.  It's much, much shorter although a little steeper in the very beginning, but seriously you just go right up and over and the steep part is very short.  Please trust me, and don't worry about those Hills.  After you run them once you will agree with me, I'm sure.

As for the few big rolling Hills leading up the Lighthouse, MY ADVICE: just put her into a nice easy gear and spin up them seated ... maybe get out of the seat and climb right before the crest, and then go aero and bomb the downhill.  I think on the whole course there are maybe, maybe three substantial hills (that of course you do twice) but the rest of the course is pancake flat.  And as for the wind, I raced out in Montauk a couple times last year, and because the races are so early in the morning, wind has never been a factor.  At least for me.

And as for us boys and our fancy bikes, remember people: It's the engine!  A fancy bike might make you .01 mph faster.  But that's about it.  Don't get psyched out -- all that glitters isn't gold   On that note, Charlie I'll be riding your Felt and you'll be riding my P2.  end of discussion
