Hey everyone! My Trek 7.2FX hybrid has been threatening me with bodily harm if I race with it again, so I think it is time for an upgrade. I'm going to be looking to purchase a tri-bike at the end of this month or sometime early next month, so I thought I'd ask the more experienced among us a few questions.

Where'd you buy your bike and/or get professionally fit for it?
Was it a good experience, would you go back, etc?

I'm pretty excited, but I want to make sure I do this right, so any other suggestions would be great as well.

Thanks in advance!

I ride a road bike. I got it at bikes plus germantown. Had a very good experience. I was in there last week, though and they had no tri bikes.

I think the place to go is RB's at wolfchase. http://rbscyclery.com/

I'm planning a trip out there soon myself.

Bike World in Collierville is top notch as is Bikes Plus in G'town.  Have heard some bad reports about RB's.  I personally have not been, but had a friend that was not happy about his experience a couple years ago.

Thanks guys! I'm going to stop by R.B.'s and Bike World in the next couple of days and do some reconnaissance. Bike World has what sounds like a pretty cool professional fit process according to their website, so I need to go and see the places for myself now.

Don't know if a bike fit is included in the price at most of these places.  If not, call Robert Taylor @ 233-5719.  He's got a ton of experience doing fits.  I believe he worked for Trek for a while as well as a few local bike shops.

Let me add my vote for Bike World.  Chad Terry is the owner - very knowledgeable and a nice guy.  I'll also second Robert Taylor for a bike fit.  I haven't had him do one yet, but when I was asking around, a lot of the local cyclists recommended him.

I'll put in another plug for Bike World in Collierville.  I purchased my road bike, a Specialized Tarmac, that I ride in triathlons there in 2006 and got their "Ultra Fit" service a couple of years ago.   The ultra fit incorporates flexibility testing and cleat alignment into the fit with an interview about your training and riding goals.  After the new fit, it was like riding a new bike - very nice ride where the bike fits like a glove.  As Mike mentioned, Chad is the store owner and Brian Pacey is the manager and wrench guy.  Their customer service is excellent.  Have fun checking out the new bikes.
