skarl - 2009-08-24 8:20 PM Latest update from Kathleen in email to Julia's tri club:

Some friends of Richard Paradis' (other cyclist who was injured) are trying to organize an open water swim race fundraiser for him (we do not believe that he has insurance and is still in a medically induced-coma). They hope to do it Sept. 6 at Grant Ranch. Julia's coach thinks he can get some cool stuff signed by Chris McCormack to raffle off for her expenses... More on these to follow.

Be sure to post more info on this if you get it... I will actually be in Colorado that weekend for vacation. I'd love to swing by if I could.

skarl - 2009-08-24 7:20 PM Latest update from Kathleen in email to Julia's tri club:

"Saw Julia this afternoon. Really making great progress! She ate lunch and the cookies me, Alex and Max made for her! She was sitting up, saying swear words and kind of peeved at her mom who is visiting. Told she was due to get cervical collar off at 4pm, nurse hopeful that she may be out of ICU tomorrow. Hopefully home within a week.

Please pass updates on to people who would like to know of Julia and Richard's progress and please have them e-mail me to be added to "the list"

I don't think I have seen this posted here yet, but last night Richard's FB page indicated that he is OFF the ventilator and breathing on his own, but still in the medically induced coma.

Hope it's okay that I posted all that...

Jen, my understanding is that the doctor took him off the ventilator for just a few hours, to run tests or as a test. He was breathing on his own for about 3 hours, I believe. Sorry if I got this info wrong, but that's what one of his friends told me.

I know we all want good news.

Oh, okay.  One person on his FB page had just been providing fairly constant updates but probably updated it right when they took him off the ventilator but never went back and reupdated.  I will wait to hear the Trixie report!

Richard's friends have created a webpage to spread the word and facilitate fund-raising for Richard's immediate and long-term needs.

Please visit http://www.dickdime.info/ if you would like to contribute to Donations for Dime.

And, yes, that is Richard's famed companion, Ramone, behind him in this photo:

Updates on Richard's condition will be posted on the Donations for Dime website.

His friends are trying to minimize confusion or misinformation by posting updates in one place where everyone would have access.

UPDATE: 6:00pm I spent a few minutes with both Richard and Julia after work. It was the first time seeing Richard and he looks great considering his circumstances. I really don't have an update other than he still needs all of our prayers. Julia looks much better today, she was sitting up and trying to eat. Her mind is much sharper today -yeah, Ill pace you all day Julia . The docs took off her neck brace. She is extremely appreciative of all the support she's received from BT. She stated that she really hasn't been blogging a whole lot, so it was surprising how much love she felt from this site. She hasn't been told when she will be moved out of ICU. Please keep them both in your thoughts and prayers.

Praying that you both make it out of this ok. Really truly sucks that some stupid driver had to screw up 2 people's lives. Hope the healing comes fast.
